Crying Ice

Today the world
is dressed in winter
freezing me breathless
in a standstill world

I hear the sound
of crying ice
fighting the waves
underneath

A lonely tear
escapes my eye
writing a sad tale
about my own struggle

on my ice-cold cheek…

So sad, so lonely, so desolate, so cooold!

Neeraja! It's been ages! You really know how to create an atmosphere! ~ Within and without!

Very well penned!

Giving you an extra-warm hug,
Linda

The words and photo do go hand in hand...and warm hands they are. Welcome back, my friend. We have missed you!

This is beautifully written, Neeraja.  How doubly sad it is, taking into account that your surname means "honeymoon" in Afrikaans, and presumably,  also in Dutch.  I am looking forward to reading more of your excellent poety.  I hope things get better for you.

Sunshine, Linda and Owl, thank you so much for your comforting words, yes it was too long and so much has happened, most good things and even when things don't look so sunny today I know they will be soon!

I hope you all feel happy and healthy!

I took the photo myself last week, we had a few weeks of very cold weather and I went to a dyke that separates the Waddensea from the IJsselmeer to see and hear the ice.... it was there and then that this poem was born.

I just read in your reply that you took the photo yourself and that it was the source of inspiration for this very fine write.

Yeppers! You're a poet, alright! ~ and a photographer as well!

I have never "heard" ice but next time I find any I will sure try after reading this.  What a very poignant presentation.  Welcome back, and may only good things come your way this year.

Dear Neeraja, this is exquisite and I love the picture too. The light is there to promise warmer days.
Just beautiful, even in its melancholy.

Love,
Margherita

This has a cold, lonely but very beautiful feel to it, Neeraja.
