Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2009-01-10 04:52 AM

(To my PiP friends, Midnitesun & - Owl)

Home

Please forgive me because I don’t know
from day to day how I feel about my home.
Some may wonder what home is.

I believe we feel home in our hearts.
It is a touchstone in our memories;
we can smell it, taste it and feel its touch.

I believe home is where I can’t wait
for the sunrise to kiss the afternoon sky
or peek between winter branches of spruce trees.

Home is where I seek the moon
at morning’s first chilled breath or when I feel
evening meld with afternoon day.

Home is a color that washes the sky with
winter dessert colors of sherbet and confection.
It’s where cold brings beauty to all who listen
with their eyes as fingertips reach.

It is a vow that all trails will lead to adventure
and it allows me to be pure female and change
my mind daily about a place I sometimes hate to love.

Home is a prayer in nature’s sanctuary.
It’s peace from within and acceptance
that wild beauty has rough edges.

-

Alison

Nice lines and photos, Alison. I might begin to steer clear of your posts lest you make me want to experience cold winter again LOL. Seriously, I love your poems. Have a marvelous day! Mark

You are quite ambivalent when it comes to Alaska.

Lovely pictures and even lovlier word pictures......Then the melancholy threads it's way through your words. Nicely done

Take care dear girl and don't go out without your winter underwear on.......(smile)

Mark,

Thank you so much.  I am quite a fan of yours too.  It will be nice to learn with you in the workshop.

Oh, Eric -

I am actually passionate about Alaska.  I love it with my heart and soul and truly would never really want to live elsewhere.  However, over two weeks of -49 degree (farenheit) temperatures are making me tired and a bit cranky.  Maybe that is the "ambivilance" that you sense.

Also, I write my emotions - and my emotions are never stagnant.  My mind and feelings flit and see and taste and feel and ... well, I am the "wear it on the sleeve, write it in a poem" type of person.

Thank you for your comments and for reading my stuff.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!

Alison, I KNOW this is going to sound as though I am saying this because of your dedicating it to Kacy and me, but I promise that every word is true!  When I saw first "Alison" then "home" I thought (and these were my EXACT words, "Wow!  This is me!"  I meant:

1) a poem by Alison
2) a subject (the concept of home) I love
3) Alaska as described in poetry, photographs and sometimes prose (in emails and responses to poems) by Alison

However, what was my surprise when I saw that it was dedicated to Kacy and MEEEE!!!

All that was before I had even read one word of the poem or seen one photograph - and then, when I read the poem and saw the photographs, I was blown away (by cold Alaskan winds and a warm Alaskan poet and photographer)!  This is my all-time favourite of all your poems and photographs (and that is saying A LOT) for so many, many reasons, some of which are sheer excellence, beauty, and your deep and sensitive understanding of life and values.  Your photographs are worthy of your poem and your poem is worthy of your photograph and they are all worthy of you, all of which is saying A LOT!  AND to have THIS PARTICULAR POEM dedicated to MEEE and to share that dedication and love of Alaska with such a wonderful person as Kacy - well, what could possibly beat that ever!  "Thank you" sounds so stupid and understated, but I know that you will understand what I mean - after all, that is why you included me in the dedication, so, thank you!

Hugs, huggles and huglets

Ali, you've left me breathless and speechless, and a bit homesick for Alaska. Your photos capture the essence of the beauty of the Interior. Sadly, the Chemo side-effects wouldn't allow me to handle sub-zeros these days, but I remember well how they can take their toll on your psyche after several weeks of relentless bone-chilling, lung-chilling frigid weather. Yet you are so right, it is breathtakingly beautiful and grabs both heart and soul. Your straightforward honesty in how you present nature is always refreshing and heartwarming, the truest poetry of life.

Thank you, dearest poet Alison, for sharing these photos and words and for the kindness of your dedication. It's an honor, one that I'll cherish forever, and to share it with Owlie Diana is fantastic.

Yo dear Alison,

I've always found that home is where the hat is.  I.e., it's all in the mind.

Alison, Having been raised in the Northwest. I know something about rugged beauty and bad weather (not quite as rugged)
After a while the constant rain gets to you
but when spring finally comes it's like you've gone to heaven. I see here that you are not only a talented poetess but a fine photograher as well. Hope you see some warmer days.

Alison, Alison, Alison...I have read your poems for quite a long time now, and they only get better. You pick the perfect words for the perfect moments. Also, as an aside, I don't know if I ever mentioned this...but in your photo, you look IDENTICAL to my best friend from High School. The same sweet face. That always brings me a smile when I click on your writes.

Home is not always where we reside,
but where our loved ones do,

in that glimmering teardrop,
inside our hearts.

Home, is:

A beautiful poem,
with beautiful imagery,
by a beautiful poet,

for two beautiful people.

Kacy,

I think of you often when I am out wandering and taking pictures.  I know that Alaska is not the place for you now, but if I can share a piece of it as I see it - this home we both care so much about - then I am happy.  You know I think of you often and send positive thoughts for your recovery.

Love,

I am sorry that I did not come back to thank those who responded again to this poem.  I just needed to take some time.

Okay, I gotta ask ... what does "Anana! (Anersarpok) Ikpinartok!!!!!" mean?
