A Few Beads For Manhattan

It stings when you’re lonely
The cornucopia of gifts must be beyond remembering
a rewind of zeal, love trinkets and blankets
a cluttered attic where dust anoints the forgotten.
Some cannot be erased
stealing attention like a perpetual video playing
a favorite book
the first bike
a first lip pressing
(even if it was only an experiment.)
Then there were the gifts of love
delivered in emotional fits
pinioned somewhere between tides in scripted sands
that cannot stay
and fickle sun days that call like sirens.
One by one they are
beseeched and removed
from mental wallets -
bent bills proffered with a degree of guilt
and longing.
It is best to look at them once in a while
peer into them with deep reflection
but most importantly
to:
spend them
wisely

'fickle sun days that call like sirens'

What an original thought~

Yep, important to look into them once in awhile.

I love these words....

"Then there were the gifts of love
delivered in emotional fits
pinioned somewhere between tides in scripted sands
that cannot stay"

Now, that's poetry!

As I began to key a reply, I found myself about to quote practically every line! So I have opted to simply state that I AM quoting your poem in its entirety ~ for each line bears repeating!

This is very poignant and beautifully written, dear threadbear!

It is amazing how objects project such intense emotions and memories.

Jeff,  I usually tend to like the poetry that rhymes(poems)more than the freeform style, however, every now and then one comes along that catches me by surprize, and I can't help but read it again and again, (thanks EA)

This is one of those of which I speak.
Very nice. I will read again and enjoy.

Thanks for the write.  WT.

threadbear - I believe this is the first poem of yours I've read. This is excellent, and I will be reading many more...

Superbly written.  I enjoyed the content, uniqueness, lack of clichés, and the art, aesthetics and excellence of your writing immensely.  I looked deep into the coloured glass swirls of each bead and spent each wisely.  Thank you for such pleasure!
