I've had good friends in life
and good men...

I've written a thousand poems,
two thousand, but then

who's counting
when I'm not dead,
poets who have tragic endings
are the ones who get ahead.

They told me write a book
but why bother when I'm breathin'?
I only like to share my stuff
with people who can understand the grievin'.

I got my words on disk
for when I finally let it go

I'm done writing now
and it's best for me to go, yaknow.

So look for the book in days to come
and sorry I couldn't sign it,
but life's just too big-a-job
and I think I will resign it.

Dixie,

Sometimes in our turmoil we leave the place that we need the most.  Maybe it is because we know that people will care.

You are in the sticks with dial up and early mornings that you can't sleep.  The words are inside you - you just need to find them.

I read this book once (I think it is out of print but Powell.com might have it) - the title is no reflection about my feelings for you, okay?  I just love this book and have turned to it so many times.  It is a novel that has made me laugh; made me cry; made me think; and it made me have hope.  I love the woman in this book.  If you have time to read (or anyone who may read this post - try out The Cracker Factory by Joyce Rebeta- Burditt).

Amazon.com:  http://www.amazon.com/Cracker-Factory-Joyce-Rebeta-Burditt/dp/0553238914

I think if you read it and when you are done, you will know what I mean when I say that we leave the places where we are cared about the most.  Maybe because when we return, we are coming home.

Love,
Alison
