Death made his usual stop today,
and we’re becoming more accustomed
to speaking openly about our feelings
over tea. I think he has a better appreciation
for my years of disdain, yes, even my utter contempt,
but I’ve tried to be a good listener and, finally,
he’s convinced me that he only does
what he’s capable of; it’s nothing personal.
He made a passionate, tearful argument
that it is others who kill, that he’s just
the byproduct of their actions.

Art,

Death is tricky, he has a line, don't listen to him.  He is the enemy that must be fought against.

Yeah, Bobby, I'm sure you caught the tongue-in- cheek of this, like, for instance, Bones would uncover in a flash.

Thanks good buddy,

I think we all come with an expiration date and he just cleans the shelves.

I like this one, Art.

Art, I have to appreciate Alison's comments.

I don't think about Death much.

I'm more in tune with relying on memories.

I have met Death, vis a vis, several times ~ literally! ~ and my 9 lives are running out!  He's out there ~ waiting!

Art, I do so enjoy reading your poetic ponderings!

Be well!

Hi Juju. I like the absolute finality of your comment, as final as death itself!

Hi Allison, like Sunshine I rally appreciate the weight of your comment---it's a done deal, best to deal with the issues of life, before the shelves are swept clean.

Thank you, Sunshine. Memories are the foundation upon which we're built day by day. Even painful memories carry meaning for our lives.

Best wishes,

Thanks Linda. I appreciate your comment more than you can know. I, too, have escaped the darkness, but not that one can ultimately escape, but just to have the existential jolt of feeling the essence of oblivion, is escape in itself.

Hello Sunshine. I couldn't think of the title when responding to your comment about the import of memories. Its from an old spiritual song I learned when I was a boy. "Precious memories, how they linger, oh how they ever flood my soul . . ."

I just wanted to share that---

Dear Art, what a totally awesome idea to dialogue with death over tea!

Death is still a tabu, but indeed we should speak more openly about it, as it is the natural ingredient of life's process. Birth, death ... I love to call it "transition", so it implies we are going somewhere, our soul that is.

It's good to live consciously, while always keeping in mind the natural evolution of our existence.

May we love more, while we are here ...

Love to you, dear Poet friend.

Beautiful, thought provoking write.

Thanks Margherita, your comment really captures my state of mind---not fear, but an open acceptance of demise on this current plane of existence, but I like the thought in Hebrews 13:14, "For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come."

Best wishes from a poet and friend---

Sometimes it's hard to grasp the concept of death.  It takes a lot to accept that someone you had once knows has died, but having LIFE as an opponent to death, hope is still there ^_^;

An interesting write this one Art.

I died once and they brought me back to life After being in a coma for six weeks.

As one grows older death doesn't worry me any more and my wife and family talk about

it quite openly, after all Life and death is
shared by everyone on the planet. No I'm

not afraid to face the grim reaper when my time is up. Enjoyed your write my friend.

I have known for some time now that I will die soon,  I don't know just when or how, only that it will happen.

This is not something that we can change or prevent, It will happen.

It is not Gods fault, He planned it this way.  We all live, we all die.  It's how we live that makes the difference.

I prefer not to die with pain, pain that I feel in life, but, I do know that what ever pain that I feel in life and death, will not matter once I am dead.

SO, I hope that, while I am alive, I can contribute in some way to the living, because I can not do any more when I am dead.

Will I have done enough in this life to have made a difference to others?

I hope so.

WT.

Having tea with death, what a novel idea, Art. Only you could come up with that,
I remember the old song "Precious Memories."
My mom used to sing it when I was little.
