Sleep

That peaceful time you long for
between battles within your mind
of what is real
and that which I can only describe
as hell If there is such a place

The tender smile of  long ago
returns to your face
if only for a little while
during this brief journey
back to better days and times

Another battle rages on
your mind the casualty
of a hard fought war
fighting you pull yourself
up out of this dungeon

One More Time

Sleep if only for a little while
brings much needed relief
giving you hope and strength
to fight tomorrows demons
before they consume you

I pray they leave you alone
give you back the life
you  had before
this battle raging
within your mind and body

What cost must you pay
will the ultimate price
be your life
tomorrow brings hope
as you sleep once again tonight

You’ve got too much too lose
so the only choice is fight
these demons with all your might
while searching for the light
that brings you victory

Sleep tonight my son
cause you’ll need
all the strength you can find
to preserve your memories
and survive another day

Paul, I felt this one deeply. Mind you, that's what your poems usually do.

"Sleep if only for a little while
brings much needed relief
giving you hope and strength
to fight tomorrows demons
before they consume you"

~ May sleep come and be deep, healing, and restorative.

Your pen spills poignant ink, dear Poet Paul.

You trying to give me a swelled head...Paul

RDB. Happy New Years to you dear lady. I saw some of the fireworks from down under on the T.V. It was a great display. Seems like I don't write as much as I use to or get to read others here at PIP but I will try and visit more. Thanks for taking time to read and reply...Paul

Linda...Sorry if I bring pain to you, you are much too sweet of a person to feel pain.
I have to agree, most of my writing is of a sad nature, but in some strange way I feel it helps me to be at peace with myself if that makes any since to you...Paul

This is one person's harsh reality.
Vivid in word and sentiment here.

Eric...You hit the nail on the head. Thanks so much for your reply. So many people are tormented by many demons of one type or another...Paul

Inkedgoddess...Thanks for taking time too read and reply. The reality of living day to day having to fight that which is trying to control and destroy you is a very tough battle, One that I will help him fight with all my being...Paul
