BENSON
23 December 2008

Benson, with your shy smile
and your gentle ways
and your young hopes and dreams
that you left behind with us,
you made a difference
in the world,
as young as you were.
You brought peace and harmony
to all you knew,
your family
and friends
and their family too,
and we miss you
with tears and anguish today,
but tomorrow
and tomorrow
and tomorrow
we will celebrate your life
and remember you
forever.

God has chosen you
as one of his precious angels.
We know that you will
watch over us all from Heaven,
where you see God face to face,
although we, on Earth, still see as through a glass, darkly.
Please guide especially your family
to learn how to cope without you,
and your friends,
who need so much
to feel surrounded by
your blessed and Heavenly wisdom and goodness and light
always.

- Owl

Diana~
Just as you were blessed to know Benson with so much love
I am certain that Benson was blessed to know and love you~

What a lovely, nostalgic, memory-etched write, within the portals of time~

Thank you, Marge, Roniece and Steaven for your kind and comforting words.

Actually, I didn't know him all that well.  He was just one of the guys who came in and out of my son's house with my grandson - but he was my favourite of my grandson's friends.

I had thought to give this to Benson's parents, but Benson was black and his mother was very racist and didn't like the fact that most of Benson's friends were white, and I was advised against it.  My son and daughter-in-law and grandson and the other guys and girls in the group of friends went to the funeral, and I know that the most important thing is that God has heard my requests.  I gave a copy of the poem to my son and daughter-in-law and grandson, and of course it is available to any of my grandson's friends who want to read it.  My daughter-in-law asked me if she could put the first stanza on Facebook, but I declined.  I said that she was welcome to put it in, in its entirety with acknowledgement to me - but not just a part of it.

Hi Owl, this is a vibrant hommage and I guess it is a necessity for sharing deep feelings....I don't know Benson, but I feel sorry for you to lose someone you love.

Thanks for the touching poem

Thank you very much, Yann, for your sensitive words.  I didn't know him very well, but he was my favourite of my grandson's friends.  My son and daughter-in-law, and, of course my grandson, knew him much better and it was a terrible wrench for all of us.  He was 19 years old.

A wonderful accomplishment for such a young man. Your tribute is very intense and heartfelt. I think he smiles from heaven in gratitude.

Love,
Margherita
