This is "the next one" to which I was referring in my note before my poem, "Vast Tarpaulin" which I tried to post immediately afterwards, but my sick Internet connection, prevented it.  I thought I posted it previously under a slightly different title, but I couldn't find it in Archives in a Search.

AFRICAN POT STANDING TALL ON POLISHED FLOOR
16 June 2008

Let us emerge
from opaque perceptions
and zigzag-bead
zenith red, and white, and blue, and green
precise, pure and pleasing
something for all

A lovely word picture of that pleasing African pot on a polished floor.

On a TV talk show there was an extremely tall (about my height) African vase beaded in a zigzag Ndbele-type pattern in the pure colours of the South African flag.  It had a huge pane of opaque – almost white – glass behind it that enhanced its magnificence.  The program was African Rendezvous or a similar program.  What I meant by the poem is let us take the bull by the horns, call a spade a spade (sorry for the clichés, but at least they're not in the poem) and save Zimbabwe with a solution that will please everyone (except, of course, Robert Mugabe).

Thank you Linda.  I saw it again on a similar program very recently, but with a different background (although the background didn't come into the poem).

Thank you Yann.  I found the pot just as spell-binding the second time I saw it.

Roniece, you must have posted this while I was typing my last response, so I missed it until I got the email notification.  Sorry about that.

Thank you for your delightful comment and your wishes for me for 2009.  I wish the same for you.  Happy Sunday, for a start!  Smiles.

The title alone is pure poetry, and the gods love vessels.

You just happen to be a particularly lovely one.

Happy New Year lovie.

Karen, thank you for your uniquely lovely Karen-comment - full of Karen-warmth and interesting angles - also because it reminded me of one of my majors at University - Classical Civilisation (the other being French) - particularly anything Greek - and one of my particular Greek passions was vase-painting.  Later when I returned to teaching, I had 12-year olds being able to distinguish (enthusiastically and passionately) between various Ancient Greek vase-painting artists and explaining why!  That was incredible fun and so exciting!

Lovely to see you posting, Marge, and thank you for your sensitive comment.

Jill, when I saw the Italian - or is it Spanish?  (translation; "It is very good", I'm right aren't I?), I thought it was Margherita!  Thank you for your fun-language comment and its content.

Thanks, Steaven.  I am sometimes not very clear - in fact I enjoy that - and I sometimes wonder if people would rather I didn't put in an explanation - so I am glad you were glad!  Thanks for enjoying it so much.

Thank you Rhia.  I'm glad you did.

Thank you Sue.  I am passionate about my country.

Yo dear OwlSA,

It sounds like a nice scene.  I'd enjoy it as long as I didn't have to polish the floor.

Love Bobby

Thanks, Karilea for that beautiful heart-warming compliment.  Giggles.  I wish the poetry-production part of the brain would function - or even more my making-time-to-write-poetry part of the brain!
