Leap Second

As if a dangling participle of fate
The world slows, even as the octave of Christmas glows
A place card tucked into the cosmic stream holds state

In this pause, the heart ponders on so many things
With cast and clarity each holiday most surely rings
Spells of optimistic sacraments to nourish the soul

Held to order, the seasons train-track in their proper place
Glistening the melt of weathering beneath creations grace

Eloquent, as if trinkets on the cuff of the fog
Diamond chips spit from the lips of the sun
One-OneThousand, Two-OneThousand

That pause in heartbeat of the earth, is but a leap second
As quick as the sting of a tear, in the eyes of a winter wind

Oh boy, this was truly amazing Kathleen!
Especially, "Diamond chips spit from the lips of the sun"

And, "As quick as the sting of a tear, in the eyes of a winter wind"

Wow!
Bravo!

and in a blink 2008 becomes 2009
the build up, the reflection, the expectation.
raise a glass and celebrate we are still here

Ok, I'm a little slow on the uptake.  I didn't have any idea what the heck you were talking about until about the 3 stanza.
Our highly funded scientists figured out that our world has changed time and we needed to, in order to keep the cosmic balance, and the water in the oceans, had to add 1 second to our lifes.
I wonder if it would have changed anything if they had of waited a little bit longer???
And here's something to think about, What if it ticked of the galaxie that we are messing with it's time table and it slows down??

Fun write, very beautiful discriptions of TIME.  WT.
