It is The Big One,
the ground is torn as a paper,
poems written since two eternities are thrown to the sea,
newspapers are not sold,
a Santa Claus murders people,
the banana breakfast tastes unfinished,
milkman forget its bottles of milk.

Nobody knows who is present,
they embrace their children
or look for them in the happiness or the misfortune,
wire nettings are anaemic,
there are not fineries anymore on the shop windows or beaches,
which says the news? you will be sick for two weeks,
the roadsigns don’t think fast,
avoid deadly jolts of cranes and stations.

It is The Big one,
What are others to me , What are you to me, what is life to me,
someone must have think of the Noah’s Ark,
to save the air, the plants, the animals.
The threatening crack extends,
houses have not any more windows nor dreams,
we hear Cristmas carol renouncing the chaos of walls.

It is The Big One.
O Californie have you ever existed,
these people have they loved one day,
these people have they been trembling.
They will not return any more at home.
Bridges and roads were illusions,
their heart was a gambling table,
the earth work played poker.

It is The Big One,
the sun cannot rise,
the tables of restaurants growl as dogs,
buildings are depressive skeletons,
their black thoughts climb on the ladders of the absolute.
The fires roam as animals become nasty,
it is your birthday, flames light the moon
and the full of life crosses of cemeteries.
Cinema studios derive on the snowy boulevards.

The hills of Rome are razed and bored,
I knew Remus and Romulus,
the empire of kisses over Santa Monica.

It is The Big One,
he throws people into the streets,
he sells shirts at Pharaonic prices,
the bread is president’s luxury.
America where was you when I met you,
you were silent in my blood,
in the smell of the calcined suburbs,
in the hesitating garages of the modernity.

O woman stripped to offer her beauty,
I accept my faults,
Let’s be The Big One.

"the hesitating garages of the modernity."
Nice line, and thought provoking write. The 'Big One'....someday it will happen, and we won't even see it coming until the moment it hits, then it will be far too late to adjust our course on this 'ship of fools.'

I hope this isn't prophetic, yann. at least anytime soon since I'm sitting on the San Andreas fault line. I know we're due for one.

Considering everything that's happening on the world scene you may not be very far from the truth.

Thought provoking write!

Heureuse nouvelle année, cher Yann!

Reading your "Big One" just during the "shooting" that has started already here in Rome ... was quite the experience!!

Love,
Margherita

Yo Yann,

I liked your last strophe.  The big one is always fun.
