She’s leaving. My best friend. The one who knows all my deepest thoughts and secrets. The one who has comforted me when I was lonely. The one who always ended her obligated calls with “Chow, Babe.” The one who stood by me when I needed her, and took my arm when I was in silent pain. She always knew how to make me smile. She made me laugh when I was down. We shared everything we owned (almost), and damned if we didn’t share our dates too. We’d run through the park screaming “Romeo! Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?” We’d go swimming at the lake, and recite all the events of the day. We’d cover for each other when we were out late, and scarf all the chocolate in the house. Everything you could do as friends, we did. But now, she’s found a new best friend. One who dislikes me. And after all we’ve been through, it’s over in a flash.
