In the space between moments

Crystal pools of innocent tears fall at a child's feet,
As she is forced to tread alone the dark and lonely streets.
Hiding within her battered shell she quietly wishes and dreams,
Wrapped up within her world of fairydust and pale moonbeams.

The child opens her compassionate heart time and time again,
Wanting only guidance, the gentle touch of a loving friend.
But once again hatred's crimson ink flows angrily down her back,
Once again she is played the fool, the victim of another's vicious attack.

The ones who called her their own now say she's a traitor,
A lesson is learned that must be understood sooner or later.
Being outcast teaches a tender heart to be eternally strong,
But being alone wears painfully on one if ignored too long.

The girl lives on the fringes of life for many tearfilled years,
Beaten by herself, wrapped and entwined within her own darkened fears.
Until a softened hand of white reached into her pool of choking despair,
Pulling her into the heavens, her soul entering the sunkissed air.

Beaming smiles are the best medicine for a once tattered soul,
Acceptance and understanding by yourself and others is what makes you whole.
Although soaring upon the soften wings of bliss is quite a gift to gain,
The girl knows that all her broken hearts were not totally in vain.

For to find understanding and compassion for others you must first find yourself,
To not be entombed in one's own despair and put all feelings on the shelf.
That child that once was me is now unafraid of even the darkest night,
For those tears made me who I am and helped my emblazoned soul take flight.
