In the space between moments

Her flowered skirt rustles in the gentle wind,
As she gazes over the ocean's twinkling blue.
She anxiously awaits the return of her love, her kin,
For the time of his valiant arrival is due.

She stands there upon the crumbling, rocky shores,
Scanning the distant horizon with a watchful eye.
Her heart is hopeful as she searches for the one she adores,
The greatest of men who stands by her side.

Dusk rolls in like a menacing, cruel storm,
And there is still no sign of welcoming sails.
Her salty tears are now slowly beginning to form,
But she hastily brushes them away, for he will prevail.

Frosted moonbeams now caress her weary face,
As twilight draws into a silent night.
Her darkened silhouette is a heavenly grace,
Her love for him glowing like a beacon of light.

The night fades into a sunny, warming morning,
But no relief is granted to a lonely wife.
For still no ship arrives upon wind's gentle wing,
And her tortured soul remains inflamed with anguished strife.

Days turn to weeks and then weeks to years,
And still his grand ship does not return.
No word comes to confirm her worst fears,
Nothing of him does she ever again learn.

As the years creep by she slowly lets him go,
And realizes its better to cherish the love that had been.
She has learned that it is better to let a new life grow,
Then to wait for an eternity for a ship that will never come in.

I'm lucky I didn't have to wait long. Inspiration seems to hang on your right hand. Beautiful work on this poem, wonderful description, beautiful phrases. The theme of it all brushes my heart, for I have had to learn to love again also. It is true, it is better to live and love then to never have loved at all.

You are awesome! I don't know much about poetry, but your words touch my heart, and it feels as if I am watching a great love story or something. What a gift.
