In the space between moments

A flick of fire, a flash of an eye,
Within the darkness, the dragon lies.
Shrouded in legend, forever feared,
To no human has it ever neared.

So in darkness, it lives alone,
Its true spirit, never shown.
But this dragon has not always been in fear,
For once, the times were different here.

Before the winds of change blew in,
Man and this dragon, they were of kin.
Knowledge flowed from man to beast,
A sacred bond, to say the least.

Then one day, the tables turned,
A dark dragon was born and villages burned.
The sacred trust was broken then,
The special bond between dragons and men.

So now the kind dragon lives in fear,
Man's evil ways, always lurking near.
Hidden it will stay, away from the hate,
Until perhaps one day, love will change its fate.

This poem reminds me of the movie Dragonheart. Well written.
