Stupid way to phrase a question, I know, but I had to put something for the subject. Anyway when is a teen not a teen any more? When you turn eighteen, you are considered to be legally of age. Does that mean you are automatically an "adult" and you can start posting in the "adults only" forum? I hardly think some 18 or 19 year olds act like adults, however. And there are some "teens" much younger than that who are ready to handle what are labeled as "adult" subjects. So what exactly are the rules of these new forums? How old do you have to be to be considered an "adult", and how young to be considered a "teen"?
I hate labels...sorry.

Well, since I get to be moderator here (yay, power for me...one step closer to ruling the world...mwahahahahahaha), I've subjectively decided on 21 as adult. Don't know why, just the age that fit, b/c technically 19 is still a teen. And as for being too young, I don't really think there are many poets here that young. Of course, if there are, we could always make the kiddie forum. Anyway, that's what I decided on, so hope that helped.

I hate to be picky, but if you're a teen when you're 19 years old, and an adult when you're 21, what are you when you're 20? You're not a teenager anymore, so can you use the "big people" forum?
Looking forward to my 21st (20th?) birthday,
Elizabeth

I agree with Elizabeth in that labels always suck. No matter what definition you choose, there are going to be exceptions. And probably exceptions to the exceptions, as well.

How's this for working definitions:

An adult is someone who says they're an adult. A teen is someone who says they're a teen.

The new forums, after all, aren't about inclusion or preclusion - but are about choices and point of view. You shouldn't be at all surprised, for example, if I post something in the teen forum some day - because I have very strong memories of what was a very compelling time in my life. So, if I feel I can convincingly resurrect the view point of a teen, that makes me a teen (at least for the length of a poem). You can certainly be assured that I will read every post in the teen forum, and hopefully with a view point based on those very strong memories.

(Having said that, I'll also admit that I may never quite get around to posting in the adult forum - my memory isn't quite that long! )

I guess I can take that. Because it is possible you could always think you're a teen. Hell, sometimes I wonder if I'm still 7 or not. Be a lot more fun that way.

I don't think that there is a certain age that you are considered an adult. There are people that are adults, but make stupid choices that are childish...so are they really mature enouh to be an adult? Same with teens, a lot of teens make great smart choices...so are they adults when they make good choices and children when they make bad one's? Whatever I just went off there. Sorry, it just doesn't make much sense to me.
