In the space between moments

I'd like to reintroduce myself.  I am Krista (Alwye on here) and for some reason, am still a moderator in this forum (I do think that is neat though).

I've been a member of this site for nearly 10 years (crazy, right?).

Until a a few days ago, I hadn't thought about PiP in a very long time...years actually.

Lately I've been trying to figure out what is missing in my life.  I am now married, have a house, and got a job as an English teacher, which I love.

However, there is this piece in me that feels empty.  I think I need to fill it again with poetry.  I was 15 years old when I figured out that I was a poet and although it has been a long time since I'd written a poem (before today--I wrote one tonight!), I know I am still and will always be a poet.

So my question for you all to ponder is this: What fills you up?  What makes you whole?  How do you find time to do the things that make you feel fulfilled?

Welcome back.  Are you Dutch, Flemish or Afrikaans?  Or am I way off the mark?

My family; animals of all kinds, especially my late horse and my living cat and my living dog; nature; walking through nature reserves, preferably on my own; gardening; really special friends like some Pipsters; having poetry in my soul; languages; having the freedom and will power to choose positivity, no matter what; doing my very best at everything I do; doing my bit for my community; computer software packages especially databases – currently Microsoft Access (previously dBASE); being a workaholic; fried mushrooms; coffee chocolates; knowing positive, inspiring people like so many Pipsters; overcoming problems; being a Christian; having religious freedom; and I am sure there is a whole lot more that I can’t think of.

And to answer your last question, the only way I know of to find time to do what I really want to do, is to MAKE it!  Smiles.

Diana fills me up.

and oh, my....so many things.

A cool breeze on a hot day, hugs, hugs, and more hugs, kindness from strangers, and yes, of course, poetry. Especially when you're not expecting that--you know the moment--when you just accidentally hit on a poem right here in the forum that feels like the author is speaking directly to you. Music, too. Especially when it's my son, and he doesn't know I'm listening. (I stand outside his door sometimes, holding my breath out of fear he will hear me breathing, and I hear him play something like "Moonriver" in that jazzy style of his.

My daughter's eyes, too. They are so very blue with one unexpected splash of brown...

And then there's the joy of just connecting with someone during conversation, and you know that you are both "on the same page" because they say the same thing, in the same words that you are thinking.

And last, but not least--saying hello to old friends.

Now y'know there is more--something as simple as "puppy breath" to watching a school of neon guppies in an aquarium make that sudden collective decision to turn, en masse the way that they do.

A cup of really good coffee in the morning, and oh my, rainbows, shooting stars, and the total surprise of waking up in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

And seeing old friends--did I mention that?

*smile*

and OH. I really, really love when you catch a stranger's baby staring at you, and when you look the infant in the eye, it smiles at you.

Always awesome.

So yeah, I'll rank making new friends with "catching up" with old ones.

So how ya been? *hugs*hugs*andmorehugs*

I popped back in here to add being inspired by others and inspiring others, and what a pleasure to read Karen's response!  And not just because of the lovely thing she said about me.  She is such a delight to read for the beautiful and/or funny and/or witty and/or highly intelligent and/or unique things she says, but most of all she is such a delight to know and her heart and soul are as beautiful as she is outwardly and she lifts up Pipsters spirits.  I really enjoyed what she wrote above immensely (but then we all, always do, so what's new about that?)

OWL- I am an Earthling, of course. But I was born, raised, and still reside in Minnesota, USA. (Yup, where it snows in June...)

I also agree that connecting with old friends can be fulfilling.

I think I'll answer my own question as to what fills me up:
Writing and reading poetry; strumming on my guitar; helping one of my students to "get it"; watching my students grow to the point where they hardly need me anymore in order to grow/learn; cuddling with my cat; friendly banter with my husband; taking walks on sunny days; getting together with old friends; holding babies; hugs from my parents; hearing my mom call me "missy" and my dad call me "dolly"; coloring in coloring books; reading a really good novel...

and I could go on.  Darn, that makes me feel good.

Krista,

I've been away from the blue pages, on purpose, to see if I could find "purpose" in my life without the blue.

Sadly, the sunshine doesn't shine as brightly, but it could be according to differing circumstances.

So, while I'm alive and athrive with breath and life, I'm challenging this self of mine to begin a new career in the [laid-off] retiring stage of life.

And then I came across this!

How wonderful when life bounces a beautiful ball back into one's court! Good grief, I wonder now at all of the gracious and grateful words you will yet speak over all of the new and varying changes you've just now entered.

I'm more than envious.

There is something about a wholesome place that allows most everything with few rules...it sounds like the 13 colonies that began a new nation, doesn't it? Good grief, look at how we've grown just since the blue pages started a little over 10 years ago?

I'm looking forward, m'dear, to what has occurred in your life these last few years, and how much you've grown.

You were always gracious in your writing, so I will soon become a frequent viewer.

Write on, and know that God blesses you, and your family.

By the way...what turns me on?

Life. Love. Liberty.

Willpower!

That is, when I am not weary and depressed, sick, lazy, idle, clumsy, confused, dull, and sitting too often in front of a computer.

Mulling this over, I realize why Karen has many answers.  It seems during certain events, ages and phases, I need different things to fill me.  Sometimes it's just getting around more people, at others, it's being alone, but family has always been a very big steady need. Shopping never was more than a necessary evil.  These pages became really important during Rebecca's illness and after her death.  I couldn't write, but surely enjoyed reading others.  Karen and Sharon were my support angels and I can't imagine what I would've done without these pages.

God bless,
  Rae

I live in Apple Valley right now, but I am originally from the Forest Lake area.  Minnesota is clearly the best state in the union, so we are quite lucky to live here!

I was just through Hutchinson about a little over a month ago--my husband and I got a puppy from a place in Litchfield.

Small world, eh?

Geez I'm really new at trying to write poetry, it's becoming hard to think of ideas.  Looking at your posts really helped though thanks
