I can't be the only one to notice how negative today's news and media is. It's gotten worse in the 5 1/2 years since 9-11, too. You can hardly turn on a computer or television without seeing something about how many soldiers have died in Iraq, or the latest car bombing, or protesters burning flags and effigies of soldiers. Why can't there be a report on the good things? Pictures of soldiers helping feed starving children or care for sick, elderly people, or opening a hospital or school in Iraq. We don't see these things on CNN. We don't hear about them on MSNBC or news radio stations. It's a wonderful idealism we're teaching our children...money and ratings over integrity and caring....great, isn't it? Rachael |

well, if this helps, this a.m. I saw a report on the policeman beating up that tiny woman bar tender, which was caught on their survellance camera...afterwards, and it seemed like a blink, but they showed it...there was a man in a burning car, and 2 officers pulled him out and saved his life...all 3 had burns, but they were all ok. I agree...it would be comforting to see more news about our neighborhoods that is positive....despite the bad... What really angers me, is what is selling...movie star hipe. I mean, who cares about their privet lives...whose getting drunk, whose buying or wearing what? And not only does the news report it, but also prime time shows...???? It scares me, b/c 1. It is so in demand, people (stars) are getting hurt and killed by papperatizis 2. It distinctly proves the mentality of American's, which is frightening. And they call THAT entertainment? If people weren't buying it or watching it, it wouldn't sell. But I agree with you. Thanks for the thread. |

One of the stupidest things, in my opinion, that my Social Studies teacher ever said, was to watch the news often. |

This sure hits a tender spot with me. What are our children to learn from the news of one Hollywood star after another on drugs or driving drunk? How about our sports figures, taking steroids, fighting, etc. I really feel they should NOT be news items as it's bad for the moral of our young people. Even all the dirty political news. It's like no one's representing us, just seeking political gain now days. It's great to see some articles on "Habitat for Humanity" or new inventions, etc. Rae |

when you see that lady standing at the bottom of an on-ramp to the highway holding a sign that says 'homeless and hungry, please help', give her a dollar or your big mac...make your own 'good news' and stop wishing our popular media outlets would do it--they never will...kindness is not sensational; the mundane does not sell advertising time...the desensitized urban majority demand something worse than themselves... thank you. |
