Good grief!  Mikie, er Maree, she likes it?  I absolutely detest that stuff,

No I won't eat vegemite on a slice of toast
From the jar on a spoon, I hate it most!
It stinks of something really foreign.
I find the texture really borin'
It smells like medicine I once took,
Or something you would use to grease your hook!
It resembles something picked up in a bag
While walking your dog, it's bottom did sag.

Do not check poem for accuracy pahleeze!

Get the picture?  Yeah, yeah I know it's good for you!  I'll take my chances.

All you ever wanted to know about Vegemite and more!

Y'know...I tried!...

and I did...but I haven't quite yet
gotten the hang of wanting to lick it
off a knife...

Now, give me CheezWhiz....

and don't get in my WAY!

LOL...

Maree, I'm so tickled that you've tickled serenity!

I've never had Vegemite but my appetite surely hasn't been whet by what I'm seeing here.  LOL

I did nod off reading the history timeline, though and I liked that little power nap, so some good has come of it.

it's some sorta supergood yeast extraction to which I have become seriously addicted.

It's put out by Kraft too, and I can't believe the same people who market this macaroni and cheese slop won't allow me to purchase a SUPERFOOD (yep) here in the states.

I LOVE THE STUFF.

It's yummy salty and yeah, I did the virginal thing and used butter too on wheat toast, but man...

*shaking my head*

If you love a good wheat beer? You should love this stuff. You just have to get over the idea that it's like peanut butter or something.

and yet again C--I find it odd that everybody seems to hate to stuff and yet?

Everytime I try to order it online?

"Sold out"

It tastes like...well, sex,/i>.

Vegemite is what happens when one allows dark home-brewed beer to dry out.

Mikie is the name we use for anyone in Canada that will eat anything! Saying goes, "Hey give it to Mikie!" see?

Okay Karen - you are kidding me right, it is sold in the States too?  I had a friend who was absolutely thrilled they that they brought me some back from Australia once.  I could not even get past opening that jar Man, the stink!

Alicat is right that is exactly what it smelt like, dried up malt beer?  I detest the smell of beer, use it on my hair once in a while though.

Originally, the phrase 'Give it to Mikie, he'll eat anything!' was from Life cereal commercials of the early 70's.  They even found 'Mikie' (same dude), all grown up, for Life cereal commercials in the 90's.

Ali, I remember those commercials now that you mention it - the kid that was Mikey was the youngest one.  Prolly where we got it from back then too I bet.  I still use that saying to this day (referring to my son as Mikey.)

Yuck - just realized this thread was about the jar of tar - bleck! at the thought of that stuff.

I'd heard Mikie died when his 'LIFE' was taken away.

We always use that phrase at our house, too.  "Mikie likes it!"

Probably from that VEGIMITE stuff. I am sure he overdosed on it being it tastes like sex.

I never used to like Vegemite that much, but a friend of mine here has found somewhere to get a jar of Vegemite for 300 yen. So now I have Vegemite toast for breakky!

Hi Kellie-

I asked the same question...this was the answer.

"it's some sorta supergood yeast extraction to which I have become seriously addicted.

I love the last part.....lol lol lol
