I have been getting really sharp pains in the lower left side of my abdomen for months now. They did tests on me, and they believe I have a cyst on my ovary (I will know for sure next week when the ultrasound results come back). I'm really scared and wanted to know if any of you have been through one of these, or know someone who has? I'm concerned about fertility since I really want children someday. Also what I find weird is that a lot of women don't get pain with these, and I have extreme pain at times. Anyone know anything about this?

I can sure understand the fear you are feeling, but telling you my story, or someone telling you theirs will not help you in this to be honest.  Each body and problem is individually unique, and very seldom do people get identical symptoms or the same treatment for that matter.  Therefore, I truly would suggest you tell your doctor the fear you are experiencing and let those who are more qualified answer you.  I can tell you this though - yes ovarian cysts can be very painful until they are removed, then you soon forget that pain.

my mom had one rupture while she was at work....she said it hurt pretty bad....had to go to the hospital...that was a long time ago though...I'm sorry you are dealing with them...and yes, I would check in with your doc and tell him/her how you are feeling and your worries...Mysteria is right on it here... hope you feel better soon.

I experienced the same thing, last January.  My doctor found a cyst on my left ovary last September.  It never bothered me, other than my cycle being out of wack. (I'm going through early menapause at age 36, found out through bloodwork, so that could also add to my freaky cycle).  Long story short, I chose to have it removed in January because the pain was getting worse, not better.  When my doctor went in (laproscopy), he removed 20cc of fluid where it had drained.  It was only about 2 cm in diameter.  It was a minor surgery.  Having a cyst removed from your ovary will not leave you unable to conceive.  Alot of women have cysts on their ovary/ovaries.  Most doctors choose not to remove them because they will go away on their own.  They shrink and grow according to your hormones and cycle.  If it's causing you pain, your doctor will do a vaginal ultrasound to see what/where/how big it is, and if it's leaking.

No matter what, please tell your doctor about your symptoms.  And try not to let it worry you.

thanks a lot for replying

I have a very hard time talking to my doc about stuff, he's not a very good doctor at all. One time I tried to talk to him about something that was bothering me, and he actually laughed at me and told me to get over it. I have to stay with him though, there are NO doctors out here at all!

I've been having pains since August so I assume they might have to remove it. I'm not too concerned about that, just basically the concerns about fertility. Thanks a lot for answering that question for me, that is big relief.

I'm sorry to hear that your doctor is not adequate for your needs.  It's not easy being in the hands of someone who appears not to care.  I don't know how Canada laws work, but in the US, you can report them to the American Medical Association, or if they are aligned with a hospital, to the Hospital's Board of Healing Arts.  You may want to check to see if there is something along that line, where you can lodge a complaint.
