Quite simply:  Love is life, without love we could not exsist.

If life is just a game, when does it end cause I want to get to what is real.

Not only unconditional acceptance but celebration of another in all their strength and weakness as a living creature. Love is the willingness to show someone that you see beauty in wonder in them, that they likely as not are blind to. Love is...well...read Corinthians, the passage on love in there is what I think of when I think love!

Love is your mind acting as human nature tells it to, resulting in uncontrollable emotions.

Unconditional acceptance is risky, I find... it's like refusing to acknowledge one's wrongs, as opposed to simply accepting them or learning to understand them.  I think love is very conditional, which is why it takes time for it to develop.

If love were really unconditional, why not be in love with everyone?

This is not a poem, but an essay that I wrote and firmly believe in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LOVE
LOVE is the 'essence of our humanity!
LOVE is the core of our character and our integrity.
LOVE enhances the spirit which stimulates the heart and the soul.
Shared responsibilities in the proper context and common sense, provides a healthy relationship.
A 'well-seasoned' relationship, deserves the honor and respect, the way LOVE was meant to be!
When a reltionship has 'matured', over an extended period of time, then and only then, will this beautiful 'entity' called "TRUE LOVE" prevail.
Okay, people, I've found it! The best explanation of love I've ever seen:
"Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no; it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his
        height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and
        cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and
        weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
  If this be error, and upon me prov'd,
  I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd."
~Shakespeare
Love is a a bond between two people to drive each other completely insane while attempting to make each other happy.
Ok ok . . .
Love is gazing into someone elses' eyes only to realize you are looking into your own.
LOVE
All our combined efforts here could never exhaust the infinite definitions of love. For that is what true love is like. It is beyond the ken of mortal man to define love. It is equally beyond mans ability to deny love. One never chooses love; love chooses you.
I have always mulled over the question of love. I have come to the conclusion that it is very rare that we ever really know true love. As someone said, Corinthians has probably the most accurate description of what love should be. However, the average person talks about love all the time without really ever feeling anything close to what is defined in Corinthians.
I myself thought I knew what love is until I first laid eyes on my eldest son when he was born. That very moment transformed me as a person, and changed all my beliefs about love.
It is unconditional, and this is not a cliche. It truly is. You would literally give your very life in defense of one who you truly love. You are prepared to forgive, wipe the slate clean and start all over; over and over again. When you love someone, there are no parameters. Love simply is.
When all is said and done, love cannot be truly defined. It can only be felt. You cannot tell someone about it. they would never understand. I pity the man or woman who has never felt the sheer joy (and pain) of love. Without love, nothing else matters.
I maintain that love is very conditional.  I don't see how everyone is so quick to say that it's unconditional... there are reasons, "conditions" under which you learn to love somebody.  That's why it takes time to develop, and that's what makes it so special.
If love were unconditional, then it wouldn't mean very much to be "loved," would it?
Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world.
Unconditional, LP, doesn't refer to the process of falling in love, but rather to the state of love. If you only love someone because they have blonde hair and would stop loving them if they dyed it, that is a condition. If you only love someone because they open doors for you and show you respect, that is a condition. If you only love someone because they love you, that is a condition. Unconditional love means that no matter what the other person does, you will continue to love them. Between a man and a woman, it is a very rare love. Between a mother and her child, it is much more common, I think.
I guess what I mean to say is that, love is often blind and we may love someone regardless of their faults.  We may love our children no matter how screwed up they may be.  Some of us may find ourselves in a relationship, although it may not be the best for us, we still love them.
I think Ron is right, although true love between a man and a woman is possible and possibly more common then we might believe. Loving someone and being able to live with them may not be the same thing. As hard as it is for me to admit....I still love my ex-husband. I could not live with what was happening in the house and things are better the way they are now. I have not stopped loving him and I am not sure if I ever will. What I do know is....as he is now...he could never be a part of my life again. If he changes and concerns himself with the happiness of others before himself and proves this change of heart....he has a chance.
A mother's love for her child is unconditional. Until you have a child of your own JP, you may not be able to undertsand this.
Marilyn.
Love is, "never having to say you're sorry."
Oops, sorry but I couldn't resist that. Guess I'm giving away my age   But in truth it is part of the equation.
i like this idea...
" love is what is left over when being in love is burned away, and this is both an art and an unfortunate accident. Your mother and i had it, we had roots that grew towards eachother underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree, not two. "
Love is...looking at your life and the people in it and knowing that if given the chance, you wouldn't change a thing.
Trust me when I tell you that it took me a long time to get to this place.
Thank You so much for making me think about this Thomas!
Can love be defined completely in a sentence? But I'll give it a go. Love is strong enough to withstand all boundaries.
