OK, it's kind of a long story, but I need to get it out. I have two sports that I love to play, soccer and lacrosse. I have played soccer since I was four years old, but am nowhere near a natural. two years ago, I started playing for a serious team, and I was horrified to learn how cruel and unfair the team could be. There is one girl, with absolutely no ball skills at all who gets to play in the "A" game, while I am stuck in the B game with people who have never played soccer before. I love soccer and work really hard, and am not that bad, but no one takes me seriously! The coach (Who is really nice) anlays tells the truth and when I come out of the game, he always says that I am doing great. THen why aren't I in the A game? But I enjoy the sport a lot. Well today, someone who I thought was my friend was really mean to me and made me so angry that I ran and cried and actualy thought about quiting the team. But there is even more to my problem. When I get in to high school, I will have to choose between soccer and laccross. I have only played laccross for four years, but I am pretty good at it, and the people are nicer and know each other more, and we all get to play. But next year, soccer and laccross will both be in spring, and I can't do both. I am leaning towards laccross, but I don't want to throw all of the years I have spent playing soccer away just because my team is mean. And this team would be all girls, which would be much more fair. I NEED HELP. Tears are actualy running down my face as I write this.

It's always wise to go with your strong points.  You admit you are better in one sport than the other, although your "heart" is in the other sport.  And unfortunately, you cannot be in both places at once.

It would seem that a one-on-one conversation with both coaches would be in order!   And then, don't argue with them - follow their advice, and perhaps in the next year, you will be able to play in your other sport!  Above all, stay true to your fairness in play, and you will be the overall winner!

Listen to the Sun! I'm with her...she's hot and smart.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Wind, just remember, it will all be up to you.  Only you can make this work.  Your staying open to suggestions is a great step, your attitude of openness, and a willing ear to learn more, will always stand you in good stead.

wind,

if you are good enough at one of the stports that you will have a legitamate shot at a scholarship or your athletic skills will significantly affect your admission to the college of your choice you should go with that sport and tough out the team and coaching issues - it would be good for your future.

however, if this is for the simple joy og the game then i suggest you go with where you will FEEL best. Unless there is a really big carrot at the end of the string there is no good reason for you to deal with a lot of team politics. Trust me, I had a similar issue with my high school baseball team. My skin was a bit too dark to start, so rather than ride the bench for years I quit and played youth hardball (little league for big kids ). I had 3 great seasons of PLAYING. In the end that is what matters. Do what FEELS right.

Hi Liz,
Other Liz here, who knows nowt about sport, can't play to save me life. However, I reckon with the reply above mine, the poster of which I cannot remember the name. Do what you feel happy doing, unless there is a great motive for doing otherwise, like the scholarship. In the end, it is YOUR life so do what will give YOU the most pleasure, and to hell with bitchy teammates!!!!!!!! Anyway, best of luck with the decision-making, if it is right, it will feel right deep down.
Luv, Liz xx
