My first wedding anniversary is next Sunday.  I want to do something really great for my husband to commemorate the occasion.  My original plan was to do a romantic hot air balloon ride, however $500 is out of my price range.  Any suggestions?  We were talking about how to celebrate our anniversary the other night and he told me that nothing could top the star I gave him for Valentine's Day...I'm determined to top it, somehow...

Congrats Tara ....

I will do some thinking and see if I can come up with something
totally different.

I'll be back soon .....

Well congrats Tara!  I love a challenge like this.  Um, how about a one night getaway at a cozy Bed & Breakfast, with a jucuzzi, in the woods?  No the jucuzzi isn't in the woods, the B&B is...or..

OH! there was a place that was offering one minute of the following year dedicated and named for that specific person..came with a certificate. (sort of on the star idea)

Or...um, hire a wizard to perform (paper magic for the first anniversary) Magical feats all performed with paper...I've seen this done.

Also you may put this into a search engine and maybe someone has a whole web site of unusual ideas for anniversaries.

You can always go back to the first place you ever made love...now that's romantic...unless...no never mind...

I'll go ponder this one....

Enchantress, we are planning on a 1 or 2 night getaway to the mountains.  We're in the middle of researching the B&Bs in the areas we're looking at.

I'm more interested in the SYMBOLISM of the gift, rather than the gift itself.  Does that make sense? Like with the star, once upon a time, we talked about 'promising each other the moon and stars'.  I told him I couldn't give him the moon, but I could give him the stars.

Tara, I have no brilliant ideas, but congratulations. I'm so glad you found your happiness.

So Sunday's your anniversary?
Well from the bottom of your heart,
Show your spouse how much ya care,
And head out to K-mart.

Let your guy pick out a card,
One that he'll adore,
Read it there, then put it back,
You'll save two bucks or more.

Then just wait there patiently,
For a sale to be announced,
Maybe a blue light special!
(It's the thought that counts)

Then take him out to supper,
(A dinner just for two)
A Big Mac or a Whopper,
It's really up to you.

Then cruise on thru a graveyard,
(Flowers are always nice)
Grab a bottle of cheap champagne,
(It's quite tasty over ice.

Tell him how much ya love him
How you'd do anything for your mate,
Get out of your clothes immediately,
Before the kids awake!

Tara I came back to see what you did - I loved Balladeer's idea actually.  Once, when one husband of mine and I were going through a bit of a tough time, I wrapped myself in saran wrap, tied myself in wide ribbon and greeted him at the door on our anniversary.  It turned into a a real fiasco but that is a whole other story as he had brought someone from work home with him and they were both standing there when I opened the door, and yelled, "Happy Anniversary!"   This is quite true, LOL.

The most valuable thing you own is a smile, wear it, and share it.

LOL at this thread. I loved Balladeer's comment, as it was almost the same one I was going to post. As for Sharon's? Hehe, I would loved to have seen that scene! It is similar to one a friend of mine did in California (Hollywood, of course!), only she left off the bow and said she got so sweaty she had to jump in the shower before hubby came home. (He was an hour late!)
Whatever you do, it will be right.

Tara,
So what are the chances we get a report? Hmmm?

Sharon,
I knew I should have taken that ride accross the sound for a surprise visit!

The bed and breakfast was great!  He wined me and dined me, we strolled through the picturesque town hand in hand, had a midnight horse drawn carriage ride, and candlelit breakfast.  At the local winery, I bought a bottle of wine that was bottled in the same month and year that we got married.  We are planning to drink it on our 10th anniversary.  We rented a pedal boat and took it out on the lake for an hour, then hiked to a waterfall.  It was wonderful!
