My Dad died of a massive stroke at age 54 on New Years Day 2002....I miss him very much.  I'm doing ok....everything is just strange and kind of surreal feeling to me.  I want to share one of two poems I wrote my parents for there anniversary on July 20, 2000.  This is the one I wrote for Dad....I love you Dad....Love Bridge

Papa I love you
In all your ways
Let me see the ladybug
You and I found today

Can we go sledding??
Out in the clean white snow
My wooden sled it is red
Down the hill we go

Today I ride my tricycle
Around and around I go
Circling the house outside
Singing songs I know

You watch me out the window
And wave and smile at me
This I love about you
As I go around and sing

Today we go to DisneyWorld
And ride fast through a mountain
It goes really fast through space
It was so much fun I thought

We went to visit Mommy
Wow I have a little brother
I thought he'd be a girl
Can I hold him please??

Sitting on the couch
I hold him in my lap
I in pink with a big cheesy grin
You aim and click

Daddy today I get a bike
You pick it out with me
We brought one home
A banana bike it be

You and I love ice cream Dad
To Dairy Queen we go
Mom gets a shake, and you get a cone
Me, I love butterscotch sundaes

I'm growing older every year
Childhood passing through
But, I love you Dad
For I am still your little girl

You've seen me through a lot
School plays you came to see
And graduate I did too
Both you captured on video

Hey Dad I start college soon
I am so excited
Because I hope to be a teacher
I hope I finish soon

This weekend we go to Hope
To dig and play in the dirt
A ride or two, 4 wheeling we go
My younger brother he's there too

We sit by the fire
I talk and talk and talk
You say a lot of interesting things
I learn from you so much

It's so quiet and peaceful
Except for brother teasing me
Watching this fire with you
Lets roast a marshmallow or two

These days you let me know
What you want for me
My boyfriend is a dork
You say, "I'll take him mining"

Some time has gone by
Still in college plugging away
I hope to be a teacher
Someday maybe

Dad you drive me to work
Sometimes from school
For in the winter
It gets soo dang cold

Wow I met this great guy today
He works with me Dad
I just know you'll love him
For he's nice and sweet

It is so strange
But I decided today
That this is the time
I will be moving away

I talked about it so long
I will be going to Oregon
As I said a few years ago
Give me a hug Dad I will be ok

In all of my life
You have been my Dad
Through highs and lows
You love me so

It's funny how you tease me
I tell everyone it's cuz you love me
For I let them know if you ignore
They best stay away for you don't like them

This day I write you Dad
And tell you how I feel
Hugs and kisses I send
Without you it would be unreal
I love you so much and always will

I'm so sorry you lost your dad, Bridget - especially at such a young age... Your poem is a truly wonderful tribute to the great relationship you had with him... You're surely expressing your sincere feelings here - and doing it in style - It's a wonderful piece...

This is, of course, a discussion forum - Wouldn't you like to share this in a poetry forum where it will receive more attention?... God Bless, Bridgette

oh my gosh, I am sorry to hear this bad news. My father has heart problems and already had a heart attack and a stroke, so he is in bad shape and will not live much longer the doctors say. I will be a wreck the day he passes on. (hugs) Feel better soon because dad is always with you in spirit. email me anytime if u want to talk.

Your dad is watching down on you and your family, Bridget. This poem is so sweet--your family must be so close. You all will be in my prayers.

God bless America, my home sweet home.
