Apologies everyone this is not a poem,  more of a heart breaking experience.

Have you ever shared a poem or several poems with someone and they threw them in the garbage?  This is what has happened to me and IT HURTS.  It hurts soo much.

I don't trust very many people. In fact there are only 2 people that I do trust.  It is one of these 2 people that has hurt me so much.  I made a book of poetry for her.  (30 in total) and she said "thanks"  than an hour later when I went to talk to her I saw it in the garbage.  I understand that not everyone understands or can relate to poetry. but doesn't everyone know that poetry is usually an expression of the feelings that are within someones heart.  So why would she throw it in the garbage?  Has this ever happened to anyone else?  How do you deal with it?  How do you stop the hurt?

As a matter of fact...my wife just this evening told me to save my poetry for the forum. I was reciting to her off the top of my head. I know how you feel. Just don't let it make you stop writing.

Whaaaaat!!! your wife said that Alan?!?!
Geez..I guess she isnt the romantic type.
I'd love for a man to recite poetry to me but it's never happened yet! I always fall for the macho jerks who do not know how to express themselves. Your wife doesn't know what she's missing. It's ok though, she doesnt have an appreciation for poetry but we do, so keep on posting! You too, Lisann,
Don't let someone like that get you down.

I understand how this could cause you pain, but the problem lies with your insensitive "friend" and not you, let her carry the shame. Obviously she is jealous.

I cant believe that your FRIEND would do such a horrible thing like that! Even if they didnt like poetry im shur they understand that its an expression of your feelings put into words on paper and they should feel fortunate that your sharing it with them! My heart would be hurting too...::hugs::

I'm sorry she was irresponsible with your feelings. Please save them though. Someone special will come along and appreciate them dearly!

My ex-husband took a poem I had written and signed it with his name and sent it to another woman! Seems he just didn't have what it took for either of us.

Hang in there and never stop writing. No matter who tosses you aside. Besides...I bet you could write a really great poem about the incident.

Sincerely,
Regina

Oh Lisann ... I can understand how you would be hurt by this. I think this is why I enjoy Passions so much. We all have an appreciation for each other's work. Outside of Passions, I am rather cautious about who I share various pieces with. Some only like the light-hearted poems, others enjoy the inspirational pieces. I once had someone ask me if I was a "tortured soul" after reading several sad poems .. they looked at me like I was from another plantet, LOL. I guarantee ... I don't pass along the sad pieces to them any longer ... because they truly didn't understand them. It's a toss of the dice sometimes I think, but that's why I love Passions. There is always someone who understands ... and for that, I'm always and forever, grateful.

I can't believe a friend could be so callous. I agree with Kit, this is a good place to share poetry with people who really appreciate it. In my life, very few people know I even write poetry, and I rarely ever show it to anyone. Not because I think they'd dislike it, but more because I only write it for me and I'm shy about showing it to others.

Keep writing and show it only to those who will appreciate it.

Lisann~
I can certainly understand why you would be hurt by the callousness of someone you obviously thought enough of to gift with your poetry~
I'm so sorry that such a hurt happened to you.

I hope you made her aware that you saw them discarded so carelessly ! !

It always surprises me when I read that fellow-poets are hesitant to share their poetry with others.

The people who know me - know that I AM MY POETRY !  I share it daily - and am often asked for MORE !

I could no more keep my poetry to myself than I could stop writing it !

And if any of you ever want it appreciated -
SEND IT TO ME !
I love it ! !
Happy - Sappy
Sad - Mad
Dark - Light
Up - Down (Ginny, Ginny squat! Tee-Hee !)

Big HUGS~, Lisann~

And a big fat raspberry to that inconsiderate slob ! ! !

Love ya', hon~

ah Marge, you made me smile.

Lisann, there is no excuse for this. If you trusted her as a friend, she should have known better. Having your feelings as such tossed in the garbage like they are nothing is heartbreaking yes, but here no one does that. Have you actually spoken to your friend about this? Maybe if you explained how much it hurt you and how inconsiderate she is, something might come out of it...Like a huge apology and their liver.
Take care and remember that there are hundreds of people here that appreciate your poetry for what it is and won't toss it away. Keep smiling.

There is a book I love called "The Little Prince" and there is a part in this book, whereupon, "The Little Prince" draws a picture of a snake swallowing an elephant. He got into the habit of showing this picture to people, and most would say, "That is a picture of a hat." Instead of getting upset, however, he continued to show this picture---until he found someone who comprehended his intention that it was indeed a rendering of snake swallowing an elephant--then he would know that he met a person who understood his soul.

Don't be disheartened. Keep writing, and keep allowing others to read--as disinterest/criticism is not a measure of your talent, but a measure of THEIR understanding. Peace to you, Poet!

Ok, I may be back later to add to this, I have to leave but I had to respond to this.

there is NO excuse for throwing someone's poems in the trash, none at all, that was unforgivable. Having said that, please think about this.

Yes, this has happened to me. There's a reason for it. I'm guilty of it, or have been.  No more.  My well being no longer depends on someone approving or going ga ga over something I've written. Why?  Please let me try to explain.

A poem, once it's written cannot be, let me repeat, cannot and should not be a real living part of you any longer. IT's not part of your nervous system, put it down on paper, let it breathe, it lives sure but it is a poem not YOU.

Don't write for approval.

Don't write for attention.

Don't write for anything but the pure love of writing and if that is not what you're writing for, dear, then think about it please.

I sing in the shower. You would hate hearing it but that doesn't stop me from singing!

As long as you write expecting affirmation and please nothing wrong with that, we all want and need that, it's great ok?  But as long as you write FOR that and NEED that you're going to at times, be miserable.

IT's not worth it.  That's not what poetry is about.  Poetry is about expression.

In the final anaylsis, YOU are the only crit who matters.  Please think about what I've told you.   This was learned from personal experience.
