The Shores of Alone

Hi everyone, I am having a block lately, since my life is in a holding pattern, and most of my poems seem to have been written already. I've also been sick AGAIN, for maybe the 8th time in 4 months. I don't know if thats a symptom of my sadness, or just living in this horrid climate, but its not doing much for my mood! Point of this message is, I miss all you guys, I only get to talk to you when I write poetry, and then not so much, since things now disappear off the page quicker than I can enter them. So I want to tell everyone that I would like to stay in touch, and if you want to email me, I would love to talk to you.
Happy Tuesday..
Sandra

Sandra, I know how you feel about being 'blocked'. When that happens, I hunker down in the Discussion forums.

You may want to check out the Challenge Forum, we've got a thread going there with some interesting challenge phrases. If nothing inspires you don't worry. This too shall pass (and you can always write about that block - give it a name and identity).

Take care!

I have a way to overcome writer's block... it works for me.
Try new formats.  Just pick one (for example, cinquain) and try one or two of them....
In my opinion, the most effective formats for this are the most restrictive ones.  It makes you search for more creative phrasings and ways of saying things... and will probably put you back on the right track.
Here's a nice, healthy list of a few formats... http://poetic-endeavours.com/main/format_list.html
At least, this is what I do to overcome it... just a while ago I had a limerick phase that got me over a nasty bump in my creativity.
Best of luck.  Discussion forums help me out a lot too... they also create the illusion that you're not gone, because your post count still climbs.  Mwa ha.

Sandra---sorry that you've been ill. Will light a candle tonight and send "feel good vibes" your way!

And? Allan's advice has worked for me too--another thing you might want to try? Take an object--preferably something you would not normally associate with your usual thought processes of poetry--then start describing it in verse--let it tell YOU the story.

And? Take some ginseng and vitamin C--you may still have writer's block but it helps restore your immune system!   HUGS.

*sigh*   Sorry you're feeling bad, and sorry you are poemless. Its a horrible feeling for sure. I do hope you'll be feeling better soon. You know, I believe in order to continue writing sometimes we have to be driven more, which means, muse or no muse, inspiration or none, we have to write. Happy, sad, sick, healthy, we must write, then we truly know if we want to write or not. I don't know if this is relevant, but I felt it when I read your comments.   *slap me if ya didn't need my input* LOL! Be well, Sweet Poet.

Oh, I'll definitely second Temptress on the point that we must write... regardless of how bad it really is.  Then we can see what it is that we are missing.
Also, read and reply in PIP!  It does help!  Try a few new forums too.  (like teen  )  I just recently dipped into Spiritual and it's opened a whole new world of poetry to me.
So yeah..... keep writing.

You have already been given some sound advice, so I'll just add my thoughts and prayers. You can always come in here and talk about how you feel! *hugs*

Well when I have writers block I stop.....usually I just go out and have a little time to myself and assess the style I was previously in....watch a movie, relax.....tend to my thoughts and then before I know I'm back in tip top shape and writing crappy poetry once again haha.
