Have you ever felt that you could relate to a person that you have never met? I'm not talking about an online friendship, where you talk with the person but don't meet face to face...I mean someone you've heard about, like reading about them somewhere. I read about a guy once, and while I can't say that I felt an instantaneous kinship with him, it grew as I learned more and more about him. It's like we have very similar personalities, and though I have never met him face to face and never will, he is the only one I've ever felt would really understand me. Has this ever happened to any of you?

P.S. The guy I am speaking of died a while back. I had heard of him only briefly before that, and after he died was when I really got to 'know' him. I felt as though he was like a kindred spirit almost. It sounds bizarre, but it's so real to me.

Yes, it sure has, there are many people I have felt like this towards. Jimmy Carter for one (you may be too young to remember him)
Paul McCartney is another, I feel like he is a personal friend almost, and God knows I have never come close to meeting him.
It has even happened with a few notable poets, Rod McKuen, Merrit Malloy, and Poe!
I guess what I'm saying is it seems very normal and common to me to have this happen. I don't know if it is something from a past life, or just a kindred spirit kind of thing.

I'm glad you both didn't think that I was crazy or something, lol. When I was 10 years old, I heard of an actor named River Phoenix. There was just something about him that drew me to him. A couple of months after that he died, and the day he died I could almost feel something was wrong, though I didn't know what it was. Then I found out what happened to him, and I was shocked...it felt like I had suffered a personal loss, which I did in a way. But now, the more I read about him, the more I realize how much our personalities are alike. It's amazing! I am glad that I have him, because he really was a special person.

Thanks for your understanding, Isis and Sandra.

P.S. I don't remember Jimmy Carter, but I do know who he is.

Yes, I know how you feel totaly. I feel that if I ever met Emily Dickinson, we would be friends. Or I hope we would. I just think that we would really connect. I didn't know much about her or her life, I just loved her poetry, but one day this summer I was listening to a talk radio program about her. She just seemed like such an easy going and peaceful person with also very deep emotions. If I could meet anyone from the past I'd meet her.

Well I haven't had any of these feelings but something that may remotely be of simularity would have to be when the smashing pumpkins broke up. My passions for that band runs through my soul. For them to break up is like a death in itself. I doubt this adds anything to this thread, but hey......just thought i'd share.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them!

Joy-Emily Dickinson is a good person to pick. Some of her poems I just love. Have you ever read the one about the gentian? That is by far my favorite poem of hers.

Dopey-no, that's cool! I don't listen to the Smashing Pumpkins, but thanks for sharing!
