In my mind, most songs are just poetry with music behind it. So, my question is "what songs make you cry"?

The song that makes me cry is Jessica Simpson and Nick Lashey's song "Where you are". The theme is that someone has died, and they are singing about him watching after her until they are together again. It's just really sad and beautiful.

And, when I'm in the right mood, the Backstreet Boys song (DON'T laugh), "Show me the meaning of being lonely" can make me cry. The title basiclly tells you what the song is about, and I just feel that the song is the anthem to my life.

Del Amitri's "Driving with the Brakes On"
Here's a few words.

And we might get lost somewhere
So desolate that no one where we're from
Will ever come
But she's got the wheel
And I've got to deal from now on

Cause when you're driving with the brakes on
When you're swimming with your boots on
It's hard to say you love someone
And it's hard to say you don't

It's a beautiful song about a couple who are on their way back from an abortion clinic, and now he wishes they hadn't. I think it affected me because it was the man's point of view. He's showing regret.

 "I'm just saying
that we've mistaken one
for thousands of words,
and for that mistake
I've caused you such pain
that I damn that word."

I guess for me I get in really depressed moods and there are a few special songs that just fit and always seem to make me cry when I need it most.  One is Lightning Crashes, by Live.  I think one reason is because the cd itself has a special meaning to me and the song is so beautiful.  Another big one is Holes in the Floor of Heaven by Steve Warner.  This was played at my aunt's funeral and will never lose a place in my heart.

I think the ones that make me cry are the original version of the "Last Kiss" though Pearl Jam did it well. Amazing Grace always gets me and DC Talk did one called "What if I Stumble" and Big Tent Revival does one called "The Ballad of Arlis Richards" Of course the last 3 are Christian cuts but very well worth listening to. They always make me cry.

I love that song by DC Talk.

I HATE the song *I Try* by Macy Gray!
That song reminds me of something...that makes me want to throw a vase or something equally as dramatic! LOL

Songs that make me cry, eh?  Well, quite a few.  Sarah McLachlans "Do what you have to Do" gets me every time.  Reba McEntire's "She thinks his name is John" and Kevin Sharp's "Nobody Knows" also get me teary eyed.  I'm a huge sap, so many more make me cry too.

Sarah McLachlan's "In the Arms Of the Angel"
and GooGoo Dolls "Name". Oh- and this song by Jude, i think it's called smile.
they've all got a similar theme. having someone to confide in, that sees beyond the facade of strength. someone who can offer a place to "hide" for awhile, while you let it out. no judgement-no questions-just acceptance. spent most of my life alone, those songs just touch something in me. i long to meet someone like that.....

There's a song by a group called Frozen Ghost called "Dream Come True" that makes me cry whenever I hear it. . . I hope to have a love someday like this. . .

Love of my life,
You were all I ever wanted,
To be with you
Is all I every really wanted
Love, undying love is all I have
A handful of words that might make you laugh
And all the strength you'll need
To make it through all your troubled times
I give all of myself to you
Only you
My dream come true. . .

I have to go find it now. . .excuse me. .

Unchained Melody by the Rightous Brothers and from the movie Ghost.... It reminds of a time when I lost somebody close to me that I shared this song with.

Ooh, what a question.  "Wind beneath my wings" by Bette Midler gets me every time.

"Did you ever know that you're my hero? And everything I wished I could be?  I could fly higher than an eagle 'cause you are the wind beneath my wings"

I'm surprised nobody else mentioned it.  This song makes me bawl.  It came on the other night while I was driving home with my children sleeping in the truck.  I was singing along until the tears started falling and I got all choked up.  I can usually hold on through the song, but at the end when she sings "thank you, thank you, thank God for you the wind beneath my wings" I lose it.

I'm new at this, so if I screw up then I'm sorry

There is a song I love ,but that also brings a tear to my eye every time.  Bette Middler sings it.  It's called The Wind Beneath My Wings .  I think that's right
The song is in the movie called Beaches.  A very sad movie and if you saw it you would find the song even sader.

Alot of other songs make me cry also.  To many to list them all, but that is the one that touches my heart the most.

And again I am sorry for having to skip by all them first.
It is a good song though Wind beneath my wings.

Unchained Melody ... no matter who sings it ( Neil Diamond sings this most beautifully)
Wind Beneath My Wings ... by Ms. Bette
Oh yes ... most songs by Celine Dion

There are many songs which move me very intensely...not sure if crying always enters into it...Sometimes certainly - depends on my mood.

Some of these are:
Come to me Bjork
Albatross Fleetwood Mac
La Sonadora Enya
With or Without You U2

I just have to rush off and listen to them all now!

Lonestar - Smile (Been there, done that...)
Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle
3rd Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life

And Danni, the song you're probably thinking of is called "I'm Sorry Now."

I'm sorry now
it's too late
I'm sorry now
do you have to hate me
I'm sorry now, so sorry now
I wish you wished
I wished you love

Because You Loved Me - Celene Dion

I was the nightmare devil child in the family, breaking all the rules just to prove I could, staying out for days at a time without letting my parents know where I was...My father would rant and rave, Mom would just cry and say she loved me, knowing that she cared no matter how bad I was or how much I hurt her... made me more considerate of her feelings and now hurting her would be like hurting myself I'd rather not! ...I'm everything I am because she loved me!!

I cry when I read certain poery, which is music. But the one song that ripped me emotionally was "Paris is Burning"
and I do almost always weep when I hear "Amazing Grace"
Thanks, lovebug, for posing a great question to us sensetive poets.
