And if it doesn't, why do I feel so dead?  How can I learn to want what I have?  Please, someone help a lonely soul dying a slow death.

In my op, if it really is love, then it will never die. But if that love isn't returned, then perhaps you may wish it were so. "Time," I've heard, has a way of reviving you. Supposedly, it will allow the pain to fade. Sounds trite, unrealistic. When you're going through it, that pain seems to be all that exists. It makes envisioning the future, a time with no pain, all but impossible. All you can do is focus on the "now," on the pain. But...there will be a time, when you can love... and not hurt.

Cristopher put it perfectly and he is exactly right. I was in the place your are in for three years. And finally in the last six months things have been looking and feeling much better! So hang in there! It does get better.

Something has to change. An undeniable dilemma. But I am not a burden anyone should bear.

Christopher is right about that love(true love) cannot die.  But I do believe it can be taken away and sometimes in such away that it leaves us feeling empty and worthless.  I know this feeling all too well.  But on the bright side mine didn't last years.  For me it only lasted a few months until I realized that all I really need is to love myself and know that there are others out there that love me too, ie, friends and family.  It was rough, really rough, almost drove me to suicide.  I can tell you from experience that it only gets better from this point on.  Well I hope this helps.

Then what is living?

Thanks to all for trying to answer a question
that really has none.  I think it's time for my "pity party" to end, tho.  Feeling bad sucks.  I guess that's not too deep or poetic, but there it is.  Thank you especially, Christopher, for your sensitivity.  There may be some hope for me,
after all.

You've got it

I know what it is like to be in your shoes.  Don't we all.  But I found that there is so much more to life, than being in love.  And when I discovered this, I forgot about all the painful nights spent crying to sleep.  And sooner or later, just when you are not looking, love will sneak up to you, and bite you.

Stay strong
