I have been really happy coming to Passions to enjoy reading all the wonderful poetry, prose, etc. that is found here in The Forums. It has become a very pleasant part of my every day.
Some of you have been encouraging me to write another piece. "My Bug Man", my one and only poem posted that I had written, was just a fluke. I do know it wasn't very good;sophomoric at best, but you all rallied 'round with such kind responses. And, I thank you for that.
I have tried hard all weekend to write another piece...but to no avail. I just don't possess the talent.
I hope you will except me for what I am....the reader, no more no less; and lover of your art.

Pepper, you may think you don't have the 'talent' for poetry. Keep reading..keep writing..don't post if you're not comfortable with what you write..but don't throw out your work. Buy this book:

Creating Poetry by John Drury

I use it a lot for the exercises. It explains a lot of 'types' of poetry and you can work at your own pace. Put it on your 'wish list' for the holiday.

Thanks for being a faithful reader!

Pepper, I love you just the way you are be it reader or writer.

p.s. The hardest way to write is under pressure. Don't let this (writer's block) discourage you if you feel inspired later on.

Oh, somebody STOP ME!!
Seriously, Pepper...you're a welcome addition to our family here. The more the merrier, I say!
Personally, I feel that if you love this artform as much as you say, then if you continue to write you'll begin to get more comfortable with your work. In the meantime...ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY!!!!

Pepper, I loved your "Bug Man" post. I think you have a talent lurking in their just a little deeper then you tried to reach maybe. Everyone is different and everyone is inspired different ways. The fact that you feel comfortable just reading and responding to all of us here is inspiration in itself. Every poem you read gives more information to your thought process and through this you are gaining knowledge for the day your talent escapes and say's hello world I'm here!

pepper add my hugs and praise to all of the above and don't worry about writing a poem...when I sit down to write, nothing comes into my head either, but sometimes when driving, or making dinner, or almost asleep an idea comes and a poem follows, just give it time and if you got another one in you it will bubble up to the top, it it doesn't well you are just about perfect like you are

Pepper, this is so sweet. I'm sure everyone appreciates the support you give them - I know I do! Hugs to you. I think many people who come here just to read are silent voices and that is fine - but that you take the time to encourage so ardently is really inspiring.

Have you ever read Stephen King?  He's written some rhyming poetry, but he's not well known for those verses.  But he is a wonderful poet, nevertheless.  His prose in the way he describes scenes and events is incredible.  The next time you see the movie, "Shawshank Redemption" (based on a story written by Stephen King), listen to the narrative.  It is rich and powerful.

What has this to do with your topic?  Go back and read your post as if it was prose.  You wrote it so cleanly that it touched the emotions of many people.  You may not be cut out to be a rhyming poet, but I suspect there is a bit of Stephen King's wonderful talent in you as well.  Just like in a harmonic orchestra, there are more than just violins and flutes in poetry.  You have a natural style in the way you write.  Don't force it into a shape for which it was never meant.  And don't be so hard on yourself, either.

Merry Christmas

Most of the Stephen King poetry I've read is in his Gunslinger/Dark Tower series.  I don't think he's very good as a rhyming poet, compared to his prose.  If you haven't read "Insomnia," please do.  His Foreword (Prologue?) is wonderful!  Even now I am deeply touched by how powerful that work of prose is.
