You smile and sit back, knowing that no one can berate you. You've done the best you could..you are not responsible for someone's lack of respect for your efforts!!!

I guess the question really is, Elizabeth, what were you expecting back in return? If you specify the reasons you gave, perhaps we can help you sort out the answers.

My two cents:
Elizabeth...my question to yours is who is deciding that your best wasn't good enough...you or someone else? Was there a grain of failure mixed with pounds of success? Did you learn from coming in second? If you did then you can say I'll do better next time because you now have the tools/knowledge you didn't have before. If your failure is according to someone else's judgement it may or may not be enitirely true. You're the one to decide that. I don't think you can feel that you failed (even though I don't know the details) if you learned something, no one died from it or seriously injured...So smile and feel good that you did your best. Okay...I put five cents in...

Doing your best is a quality, sometimes it isn't as prevalent a quality as one would like to be, but nonetheless, it IS a quality. And one with this quality, no matter the degree, uses it to the fullest potential. Still your point is not addressed in my reply. Really, people can be moronic assholes. The thing that I do, is simple...
"**** off!" I say, because who in hell matters to you? A group of outsiders, critical of your every whim, not caring that you tried, but knowing that you did so, or yourself, for who the vast effort was put forth? Personally, while it may be hard for me to resist the criticisms of other people towards my best efforts, I find a peaceful sense of pride and accomplishment in knowing that I did my best, I mean, I did it for myself in the first place.

Anyway, I hope my somewhat rambling words offer you some alleviation from your pain.

Caringly,

"Take in the best and screw the rest," said the queen. Well you know what I mean. Enjoy the little things in life and don't worry about the rest.

Brandon: I like your philosophy!
