My Lady Weeps
By Paul Wilson

" For The City of New Orleans "

My lady weeps from wrath
endured that August morn
The city where jazz
and the blues were born

Shrouded in darkness
nothing left anymore
Will my lady sparkle again
like she did before

Many things are gone
many stood the test
Old man river rolls along
on its never ending quest

Bourbon is quiet tonight
no music to touch our soul
Irma and Fats packed up
and left town I’m told

The panhandlers are in Memphis
lantern lined streets lead the way
It’s been a year since that day
and my lady still sits in decay

Many have returned home
to rebuild and start anew
Others remain adrift in life
not knowing what too do

The street cars of St. Charles
are making their regular run
The oaks of City Park
greet the morning sun

My Lady…My Lady
the world is watching you
With help from above
God will see us thru

A vividly descriptive, and highly moving, portrayal of the New Orleans of yesterdays and the one of today. The contrasts were haunting. Well done!

Yes, the spirit of its people, cannot be denied! They will rise once more like the indominatable phoenix and regain their past glories!

Our Serene One is a fine example of that city's spirit!

Long Live New Orleans! ~ and you and Karen!

How very sweet and touching Paullie.

Thank you.

And I guess everybody knows the depth of my emotional attachment to this city, and today, I blushingly confess I am very much like her.

There are parts of me that have not been touched by all the tragedy, and that's usually the face I show to company.

But mostly I'm a wreck--my pipes are busted, the bricks are moldy, but given the right hormonal swing, I can still party like there's no tomorrow.

Good thing, that.

I have learned that tomorrows aren't guaranteed.

You should send this in to the Times Picayune Paullie.

and pssssssssssst...Paul? Gretna Fest! It's ON, and our friend Charlie Daniels is headlining. I'd love to see you, so lemme know, so I can make arrangements. (Neither of us gets around easy anymore--oh--heh--the BIG EASY---lawsy the irony is everywhere, ain't it?" *laughing*

iliana...Thank you for taking time to read...Paul

LeeJ...You are so right, I know how she loves New Orleans and hope this poem mirrors her feelings. Thanks for the read...Paul

Nancy...Yes she is a wonderful person and poetess that I have come to care a great deal about, because we come from the same stretch of bayou. Glad you enjoyed...Paul

Linda...Thank you for your kind words. Serenity is what New Orleans is all about. Sassy but sweet, Honest and dedicated and most of all a friend...Paul

Martie...Thanks dear lady for understanding. New Orleans may be build on a swamp, but the roots of it's people go very deep...Paul

Serenity...No one especially you needs to tell me how much the Big Easy means to you, it is in each word you speak and each breath you take, just like me and my daughter.
I took your advice and e mailed it to the editor of the Times Picayune so we will see what happens. If they do print it and you see it could you save me a copy of the paper, cause we don't get it at home.

Just know that all will be okay, it just takes time, like a good Gumbo.

Don't know about Gretna Fest, when will it take place? It looks like i'm going to Cameron for 2-3 weeks Friday.
Have a ball if you go...Paul

The Lady...Thank you I really appreciate your reply...Paul

Dixie...Where have you been? A few weeks ago I read where you moved and I haven't been on the computer much lately so I thought you might have gotten lost out there in Kansas. Glad to hear from you, keep in touch. Thanks for the sweet reply...Paul
