It seems that when the holidays come
illness arrives in time
to take away the merry of it
and leave me alone in rhyme.

Pressures often wear me out
the empty to minutes fill
never understanding why
but accepting whatever will.

Staying in, relaxing the mood
but content to do the need
for holidays don't agree with me,
something I must concede.

So I put up one small tree and lights
to give me a sense of being
and music playing to my ears
to rise in me the freeing

Of feelings tensed, and pounding thoughts
to rid of by day's end
remembering the better times
till I am on the mend...

M

Maureen,

Please take very good care of yourself!
[this sad 'ol world truly needs you!]:

I especially loved the following:

"So I put up one small tree and lights
to give me a sense of being
and music playing to my ears
to rise in me the freeing

Of feelings tensed......

remembering the better times
till I am on the mend...."

I hope your 2007 holds fine new promise!

Lovely 'write'!

Enjoyed reading... recognize the familiar picture/image... sometimes see it in the mirror.

        Best wishes for the Holidays.

Too many have those same feelings. We have to almost fake it to keep the spirit. You are among friends with like minds. Take care of you, martyjo

May I join the chorus expressed by others here?  Take care of yourself; know that you are among the majority of individuals during the holidays.

latearrival, oh I don't have to fake a spirit..I just seem to have low resistence to germs at this time of year and especially since working with first graders.
I held out for them till school vacation but it has taken its toll on me. So now my vacation is spent in bed recuperating...
Thank you, kaila.

so I read a little, rest a little, eat a little, read a little and the cycle continues...

not sure if I am better or worse...what an awful cough it is though
thanks,

Maureen....each day is a tree...not Christmas, but a waking tree I'm thankful for that is decorated with good health.  I wish you the same.

Maureen, by the title, I thought you were going to write about Christmas chocolate

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Thank you Martie..I do feel the same... and know eventually this too shall pass. I think its become an annual tradition with me.

"I"  I have a pound or two of chocolate here... gifts from my class. My taste buds are shot so I am saving them when I can taste them
thanks

Maureen, I understand this so much. I seem to have very little holiday spirit some years. And, I put up a tree just "to give me a sense of being", at times.
Love ya, dear lady.
Hugs,
Ethel
