She stared at me in disbelief
and anxious curiosity
while I ate my Oreo whole.

"You're eating it all wrong!
There's a proper way to eat
an Oreo you know.
Let me show you how!"

Apparently
you're supposed to pull it all apart,
lick off all of the cream,
then dunk the cookie bite by bite
into icy cold milk, it seems.
She also said that once you learn
how to properly eat an Oreo
you'll understand what Life is all about
and that's all you'll ever need know.

I just sat there in silence
holding my whole Oreo up high,
hoping never to learn how to rip
something so wonderful
apart.

And to this day
I still eat my Oreos whole
with a contented, happy sigh.

Here, Here!

Whole-hearted agreement!

and I love the layered message, just as much as I love the layerings of dark rich chocolate, and cream...

Yer a philosopher!

Kacy,
So that's why my wife puts them into her milk whole! I never knew. Thanks for enlightening me oh she who is wise and all knowing.

This is a cute poem. I dip my Oreos in milk until they are soft and soggy, thats how I like them. I would like it if they sold just the creme inside without the cookie.

I haven't eaten Oreos since the company caved to the soy bean lobby and took the palm oil out of them.  They have never been the same, but your poem made me smile and remember the value of small perspectives.
