      The Stray
         ____

I glimpsed you
from the corner of my eye,
limping across the yard.
With each pained step
you stopped to look around,
in fear of making a sound.
Your fur was matted
from sleeping in the woods
for weeks on end,
with dirt for your floor,
weeds for your bed,
and a pillow of tears
for your sad little head.
Your bones showed through
on your starved little body,
so long without food
you barely had the energy
to keep moving along,
yet your will to live
was so strong!
I reached to pick you up
and cuddled you in my arms,
amazed to see trust in your eyes.
I fed you warm food,
and held you all day
while you slept and dreamed,
no longer alone,
no more need to roam,
you've found yourself
a new home.

How sweet...I found my little Dachshund the same way.

Cute; My cat Jinx was found in the same manner. I am glad that I saved him before an early death. I liked this poem! It brought back a fond memory.

Poor little thing!  I can't deny a stray, I never could.
And this poem shows it all, you make me feel like I saw it and cuddled it to myself.
