I've always called the aurora borealis
my Rainbow Dancing Lights.
But at midnight on September 11, 2001,
the aurora was monochromatic,
a pale green, short-lived dancing wave
accompanied by thousands of stars
in a cold clear sky of midnight blue.
And the dancing lights took on a different hue.
They suddenly became a pale Rainbow of Hearts.
The stars were the souls of lost innocents,
and the aurora was their wave goodbye.
And I stood in awe and shock and pain
and all I could ask was, "Why?"
And I heard the weeping 'round the world
of the loved ones left behind,
and the souls that burned brightly in the sky
were also asking "Why?"
And still there are no answers
though I look to the sky each night
and ask God "Why?"
Now when I look for the twinkling stars
and the dancing northern lights each night
I cry my silent goodbye.
And I look to the sky
and ask that same question
  "Why?"

Will there ever be a reply?

Questions so profound take time to answer, time and thought.

I am the two-toed wanderer

You know well that I believe
there is an answer for everything...
but in its own space
and time
and plane...will we know.

For some reason, I saw your poem
and the title alone spurred me
to write

so while we wrote separately,
still...we merged...

Kacy?  When are you and I going to
write a duet?  Don't you think it's about time?

I do...
about time....

I read your words with awe and wonder.

Then wept as I too, asked God, "Why?"

Gee, God's time seems to be, sometimes, maddeningly slow to us mortals...
You will get and answer, Kacy.
Keep the faith

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

the answers await us Kacy
our hearts long to know them
they slide quietly past
often in our tears

I love this poem

Rainbow Dancing Lights

Grand, heart-felt and touching poesy!:

taking on a different hue and.....becoming
a ‘pale Rainbow of Hearts’ with ‘lost innocents’ star-souls wavin’ goodbye.....
with the weeping world of those left behind!

particularly meaningful and nostalgic for those of us who have many times witnessed the ‘Northern Lights’...and who have lost many friends/loved ones! (particularly to war)...

I ask MANY ‘why’ questions daily!
