Penumbra

They of the long shadow that is night,
I of the shining yet so quick to end as light,
they cannot face the bright, nor I the black alone

Formed of old gods stacked onto older, lingering
toward the world’s poor undulate balance, visculent
upon some Atlas-trammeled turtle’s back

In neither spring all gone a-bosky nor the winter
doddering down in licks of snow to silt the lake
and send it waveless under a sickle moon

They of shadow they of wait forever for the ice
of time to thaw them free, they of wait for me,
penumbra only common ground, nor night nor day

They wait and I wait too, the moment when surrounded,
horrored not nor unconstrained I’ll whisper, diffident,
“Our Father...” knowing they too believe

Definitely saving this one.   I cannot tell you just how fantasically wonderful I find this to be.
Should I ever aspire to become a poet...  This would be one of the beacons used to direct my path.

Pull the shadow on
walk him toward the morning light
watch him grow behind

If there's a poetry class in need of a poem that shows just how great writing can be... they need look no farther than this. I find more with every read... and end up feeling a sympathy I wouldn't have expected to feel... perhaps because the tone is both reverent and a bit sad... "nor I the black alone"... that caught and held my attention even through the incredible images that followed. *S* Absolutely superb work, my friend...

yes
an amazing piece of work

"Formed of old gods stacked onto older, lingering
toward the world’s poor undulate balance, visculent
upon some Atlas-trammeled turtle’s back"

But it's turtles all the way down...

Attracted by the title, I came in to read and I must say that this is an impressive write ... in the penumbra the fusion takes place and Oneness is perceived. That is what I found here.

Love,
