A Question of Coyote Midnight

What does the coyote know
just before midnight
when the moon is quiet
and the river runs dry

Does he know a young girl's treasure
hidden within the folds of cork
in an old oak tree
is waiting for time too

One voice wakes me
I've a mothers’ listening ear
and all the other voices distant drawn
come foresting down the hillsides
into the canyon of village lawns

Stilled in awe of language primitive
with some meaning that I grasp
I open my questioning thoughts
and unclasp my blanket to explore
the echo that lingers
and leaves me waking wide
the wild in me all lose and waiting
something the gold eyed song has cast

The young girls treasure and mother’s ear
held sacred like this waking sound
sharing dream drawn listening until
letting wild be wild we still

I could feel the night of this one,  and
the thought of the coyote.  Well done dear
lady, well done.   Yes, I am still alive and
ticking, contrary to the belief of some.

(smiles) And to think the coyote and the raven are the two creatures in Native American folklore always cited as the trickster, LOL! (giggles) Coyotes have always fascinated me with their youthful sense of wonder, yet mature "old soul" kind of wisdom as well, and I'm sure that, being among the most sensitive of God's creatures in my heart, that they can understand songs and voices we never even hear by ear, yay, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
