The Weed

Upon a winter’s morn you came,
High upon a snow white steed.
Your visage bright, as if aflame,
You sought me as you called my name:
You, the beauty, I, the weed.

Your tinkling laughter lifts my soul,
Although, hidden I remained.
My ice-filled heart as black as coal,
Yet, moved! And never quite as full,
My youthful spirit still waned.

The ground trod bare beneath your trail
Missed the life of springtime days.
When flowers and weeds, oh so frail,
Were injured oft by sudden hail
And healed by the sun’s soft rays.

But I, a lonely weed of doubt
Hid well amongst the flowers,
Was nevertheless want to shout
And turn your goodness ‘round about
To wait for springtime showers.

For, just a lowly weed, and still…
You dismount and seek my face.
My shyness but a bitter pill,
I swallow hard and try to feel
That I am worth your tender grace.

A gentle wind blows warm and mild
On burdens that I carry.
Your kind embrace, as with a child,
Would melt the heart of one so wild
As once again you tarry.

And, lo! What wonders do you sense?
You kindly tend my bower.
Around my heart was built a fence.
I tear it down for all days hence,
And change from weed to flower.

You, the beauty, I the flower,
Sow a field of varied seeds.
For we understand the power;
All the love and care we shower
Turns to flowers any weeds.

Aahhh....the flower within.

Excellent write, John. Liked the flow, the rhyme scheme, and the content.

Thanks, CastleGuard.

I guess that I was feeling a little angst mixed with a little whimsy.

John....I've always seen weeds as lovely when care is taken of their fragile nature.  A weed, after all, is in the eyes of the beholder.

I love the way you write with just the right touch of whimsy.

Most excellent indeed.

Hi, Martie.

Oh!  Then you should read my poem, "The Breath of Life."  I'll post it, today.
