No wind today but the trees are at play
shuffling and mixing up my metaphors
and dancing the letters of big and small words
from leaf to leaf and shadow to shadow.

I accepted the dare of “catch if you can”
but in the sly manner of foxes and men
they hastened retreat down into the roots
supposedly hidden from ordinary women.

I look at the trees; how easy it seems
to chop into a root or two
but hardened they are and demanding
before they release an “I”, “l.o.v.e.”
and a beautiful, beautiful, “u”.

But I chopped and I dug, ferreted, searched
and hold forever a treasure of worth
because the power of love created the love
that brought up the wonderful
from the decidedly weird.

And there’s a certain kind of magic
in the release of the “I love you”
that leaves the trees as always before
waiting maybe for you to dig too.

I’ll go back one day for more words to say
but until then this story’s complete!

Helen...I loved the playful feeling in this.  Tree's a strong, yes..but not nearly as strong as love, or a woman!

Thanks GS and Martie.  It seems that we are losing more and more trees every day and where will we find the words of love when concrete covers the earth and we are as hard as bricks?

Enjoyed the read very much.

By the way, your namesake little lamb is going to be a Mom next spring.

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

Thanks WW, Titia & Dixie for the read!

Titia - Oh, yes, I do remember your "naming"!  Sometimes special things slip from memory until they come back again in a most meaningful way.  For some reason or other this impending birth is meaningful for me.  Thank you for telling me.

Hi, Jo!  Only when something is "complete" can we sleep!
