Incoming Katyusha rockets

no where to run,
no where to hide,
no time to say goodbye,
I love you

!zing! !bang! !kaboom!
the sand flew upwards and outwards
and the noise was terrifying,
though not death defying

I hit the floor of the bus
and stayed there,
as scorching 120F heat seared my legs,
made my head pound,
made me wonder why I had chosen to wander
to the Middle East,
so far away from the tranquil beaches,
the view of peaceful islands
off the coast of southern California

and though this is an archived memory
from half my lifetime ago,
the sound still resounds loudly
in my ears, is yet reflected in my tears
the ones then,
and for those blown away today
by those same damned missiles

and it matters not to me,
who they be

they were humans
and somebody's loved one

I shall say no more

Powerful writing on the human endurance of a war that nobody seemingly has any idea of why?...How many more will endure this? How many more families will dread the doorbell ringing?

A great write Kacy...thank you and may God bless the people in harms way..

((( Kacy )))   Thank you for this.

This made me think of The War Prayer by Mark Twain.   Something I feel everyone should read.

Nancy, it just breaks my heart
to read what is happening.

If war never has an ending point,
how can Peace have a real beginning?

If all the world was composed of Midnitesuns, what a wonderful world it would be!  Upsetting, but powerfully beautiful, Kacy.

I dont know what else to say. "Powerful" does seem to be the word to describe this best. It has so much emotion to it
