(Purr*sef*o*nee)- In Greek myths, the goddess dragged into hell by Hades

Persephone, Persephone
Tell me why you cry
The fields of corn have turned to dust
The soil has gone dry

All the farmers plant their seeds
And shovel piles of snow
Praying to the Gods above
For crops that never grow

Persephone, Persephone
Your garlands have turned gray
What happened to the buttercups,
The narcissus in May?

Where are all the flower beds
That bloomed beneath your touch?
What happened to the hyacinths,
The irises and such?

Persephone, Persephone
The nymphs, they miss you so
Your mother wept a stream of tears
So steadily they flow

When pomegranate touched your lips
A tear fell from your eye
Persephone, Persephone
Tell me why you cry

The ancient myths boast some of the greatest stories ever created. But of course, they're really much more than that and always will be.

Still, it's nice to know there are some who still mention 'the gods' occasionally and not only God.

"Persephone, Persephone
Your garlands have turned gray
What happened to the buttercups,
The narcissus in May?"

I came back to highlight one stanza that I especially enjoyed.
Keep that muse busy.

Hey Jess

You are really good with rhythm and rhyme....and I like the story of this...well done!

I saw your thread called, "Not Fair".  You'll see that my reply will send this poem back to the top.  It just works out that the more you reply, the more people will get to know you and reply to your poetry thus sending it to the top again and again depending on the number of replies.

So, back to the top with you!

I knew I was going to like your writing the first time I read one of your poems, and I was right!  Sure like this one.

Jess,

I loved your poetic reenactment of her story, I loved the flow, I loved rhe repetitive chorus of Persephone, Persephone... The one thing I do hope though is that she'll not be gone for long because I do so love spring, growth, and prosperity. Enjoyed reading and God bless my poetess friend.

such brilliant and fantastic flow here, and a touch of class too..since the Greeks are the true masters of poetry..especially metaphor, which they considered to be the highest form of poetry..Kudos to you jess and thank you very much for the words...

In the larger sense, your beautiful wordplay depicts the regret that leaves a desert on the field.

Very pleasing write.

WOW! I Love This!

I Thought of You Today,

For A Brief Moment I Had You
And Still, I Somehow Knew
I'd Have To Let Go

I, too, have written a poem of Persephone...
she is a magical muse, and this poem
brought her to life once again...

be well, fair Poet...and write on!

You had nice word choice and tied in references to the Greek  Myth of Persephone and the gods well.
