Tomorrow is Sunday, Monday is the day
that your Captain will call you and you must obey.

Paul Stookey/ Peter Yarrow

a loud rap at the door
he has come like a thief in the early morning
to take that which is most precious to us
he stands
in what was a great hall
before his appearance
now diminished by what is taking place
in hearts
and lives
crisp blue pants and shirt
white hat and golden anchor
speak more than the man himself
he has come to take a son
he need not even say
get your gear
the deed is done
beloved child looks into my eyes
don’t cry he says
I make a promise
I can keep
only so long as he
breathes the air near me

oh, this skips a heartbeat. Though very gently written, the depth of love crests itself in a wave of emotion.

Your crushin' me here...I love this, like all of your words so far. I have become a fan of the Lady.

Thank you passing shadows. I appreciate your reply so much.

Thank you so much Midnitesun.

Thank you Sy.

Ella, I appreciate your comment more than you know.

My grandson, Christopher, left for the Navy this afternoon. That loud and lonely rap at the door has long brought pain to the hearts of mothers and grandmothers all over the world. I never thought I would join their ranks. Thank you all for your kindness.
