I Packed

I packed my ā€œIā€ upon my back
A heavy burden alas alack
And trod a path to find a shore
A stepping stone to evermore

But what you think you need to be
Is much beyond capacity?
And so I shed, discarded it
But kept the essence of my wit

I also shed the weight of sigh
So I could ride a butterfly
We fluttered over hill and dale
And stopped to eat at nectars pail

It was my mainstay that and honey
Free to all it cost no money
And settled down in Shangri-la
Which by the way, is not that far

So if you pick a path of vie
Make sure you ride a butterfly

Oh!  I wish!  My thoughts though can surely fly and the nectar is whimsically sweet in this poem.  I've yet to see a butterfly this spring.     Thank you!

Splendid poem.  I went for a walk and your poem reminded me of the 2 I saw fluttering around the bushes.
