Far from where I am going

I can't write poetry anymore
if it can be called poetry, all that I've written before.
my vocabulary is not extensive
and, I never rhyme, never rhyme.
my emotions have left me standing as a hollow husk
a hollow husk once called a writer
I am nothing but a man with a dry pen
no love, crush, or attraction of any sort
nothing for metaphor to discover
my window of life now filled with looming storm clouds
a yard once plentiful with life now brown and dying
bird song voices are mute
I am ice in a world of fire
melting ever so slowly into a puddle of steam
only my pen can save me
but it has been set aside for repair
oh honey sweet words
I yearn for you as a lover for a kiss
please return to me.

Hmmmm...periods of transition?  A teacher of mine once told me a writer must write--he will have no choice.  Perhaps that is true since the longing to express onself surfaces even when specific form in writing does not.  Most of us can easily relate to the feeling of a 'well gone dry' every now and then when writer's block sets in.  In your case and mine--an ink well!     It will come back...

Leave it alone
and it'll come home
flowing its ink
behind it.

DJ~

LOL @ our OWL's reply~

And I was thinking after your title of
"I cannot write poetry any "LONGER" ...
that some of us can't write it any 'shorter' either~

Did ya' know that sometimes those gosh-darned muses just take off on summer vacation ?

Betting those little rhymers will be back with lots of souvenir 'inspire'~

And if not ... ALL 'THOUGHTS' are poetry !!
So ... there ya' go~

Don_Juan, I think your muse is on your shoulder and just needs to be tickled! Perhaps she (or is it a he?) has been feeling ignored. I will tell you one thing, poetry is communicating one's thoughts, feelings, visions ~ or lack thereof ~ and you have done a wonderful job of that!  ~ in spite of Miss Muse taking time out!

Life is made up of cycles of highs 'n lows, good and bad, Light & Dark, ins and outs. The negatives can make the positives so delicious when the sun comes back out.

If you feel that your poetic form is not up to your own standards, then just emote and emote and emote by writing and writing and writing! You may be surprised at the gems that may come pouring out of you!

I know that the ink in my own pen can change grade without a moment's notice. Sometimes it is Grade A (if I do so say myself! Flirty) and sometimes it is reprocessed oil!!! Oh well, what the hades, I still write and let the words fall where they may!

I love the wonderful replies that your poem has engendered! Ya see! You can write and reach into the hearts of your readers!

Giving you a big warm encouraging hug,

EA
