THAT ONE, THAT WAS!

In all those places here and abroad
Laid beneath headstones, row on row
All the Heroes from all of our Wars
Lay quiet as mournful Taps blow.

The records kept of the Fallen
From the Revolutionary War
The numbers growing till this day
As we keep adding, more and more.

The silent Valor of those resting
For all ofLife’s Eternity
Left loved ones grieving for forever
With cries from each and every Family.

The Call To Arms, a way of life
Throughout the History of Man
To try to find a Peaceful way?
Pre-empted by some Battle Plan.

Most Wars caused by Religion
In the name of Righteousness
Some fought over Land and Power
And just plain Human Greediness.

Is it the survival of the fittest?
Or caused by some Ancient Instinct?
So far we have been very lucky
But no doubt, someday we’ll be extinct.

We think we are Sophisticates
And the wisest Animals created
That some Super Being made us
And maybe somehow are all related.

But since the dawn of Mankind
We have tried to kill our Brother
And sometimes even a Sister
And a Father and a Mother.

Seems we are lower form of life
Even with all our intellect
Our main goal is one-upmanship
While we spout, Love and Respect.

We may have been Created Equal
When we were Born into this World
But, we’ll try to control others
And soon, the Battle Flag’s unfurled.

So we send our Young off to War
That’s just the way it seems to be
And seems we will keep doing it
In every Nation and Country.

War is a waste of everything
Though sometimes forced to Fight
We even have “Rules of War”
To help guide us to Kill right.

While we are the only Animal
Who Kills for the thrill ofKilling
Maybe we’ll Evolve into a Being
Who will no longer be willing.

Till then we’ll build our Bombs and Guns
And Fight in the Name of some “Cause”
Unless we join those many Species
Who used to be, That One, That Was!

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children . . . Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

- Dwight D Eisenhower, from "The Chance for Peace" address delivered before the American Society of Newspaper Editors, April 16, 1953

(angel prayer hugs) Oh Abe, I share these philosophical and humanitarian concerns as you do, dearest friend, it deeply saddens me that I truly believe our politicians especially seem to take for granted that under the uniform of every young man and women who serves the best interests of this country in heart is one of our own children, one of our own siblings in spirit, and in merely commemorating the former, we're simply not hearing the desires that are universally felt in heart; the desire that someday peace will finally be promised to our children long before we become extinct. (sad sigh) I believe wholeheartedly that we must care for and honor those that have served to the fullest, for these are our children and must know especially how noble and admirable their services are, which I am most proud to do this Memorial Day and every other day, and I also believe if we continue down this road where we decide in war over peace, it will ultimately result in the early destruction of us all, and I believe that is universally understood in the hearts of all! God Bless You, dearest friend, let's continue to pray the current war in Iraq will end as soon as possible and beyond that we can all unite closer toward peaceful resolution, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Abe, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
