Eclipsed

Harvest moon shine bright tonight;
illuminate this tattered path
and lend your tawny glow
to highlight letters etched in stone
these calloused fingers
have traced a hundred times.

Ginger moon I’ve felt the chill
of too soon fall’s emergence
and have seen morning’s frost
lace its path across scored marble.
The leaves are turning;
yet, in my heart, winter has arrived.

Tell me, how can it be that he
and I sat beneath your golden orb
just months ago when we were young
and, oh, so full of life?
Tonight, I’ll go to him,
lay tired body next to his
and sleep safe, sleep deep,
curled tight
on that familiar mound of dirt.

Oh harvest moon be kind tonight,
guide my weary steps,
and light this shadowed life
…eclipsed
the day he died.

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten,but I've loved another with all my heart and soul,and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

I understand this profound a love... where death is but a door closed to one for a while. Beautiful, poignant write!

oh my...i walked those very steps such a short while ago. and how empty arms do ache when  placed about marble. you've made what i thought was finally quelled, roil painfully once again.  this is so very lovely. this is so very true. i pray you find some solace, i pray i do, too

It is top notch writing, for sure. I hope many get read it.

grief....you have carved it beautifully out of the stone of sadness...it will and can never be other than sad, but oh to make it read as beautiful as this

Well done, indeed!

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
