Tired Opera

There were twisted butts
floating in the toilet.
And opera released
a smoker’s trademark cough.

There were screws in his lower back.
He had little pain though,
flossing with his sutures,
and tap-dancing upon the tire swing
where he learned the true meaning
of Verdi.
La-laing with pain.

I will ask you once more for my insanity back; and after that I shall be forced to play tennis. Now give it to me before I do something rash!

Is that what it takes to "get" opera?
Question is . . . is it worth it?

I find it interesting how, depending the point of view by which this poem is read, i can see both somewhat comedic aspects as well as a sense of genuine sadness.  Whether your "multi-tone" is intentional or accidental, it is a fantastic poem

Thank you, most of what I do in life is drama-comedy. I usually like to tell bad news after a funny joke, it’s a balance.

I'm not smart, I'm just a tricky dumb person.

I don't know much about Verdi, and less about any of the singers in that loop... but I like YOUR voice, very much.

Well I know a bit about Verdi, a lot about pain, and most about the joy of the absence of both...

greetings from the swing!

Much enjoyed.
