Every chess move is a mistake,
every word of argument,
the words pawns in a game,
and “pawn” means “stone”

A poem is made of words,
each too, a mistake
of perhaps another kind

I’ve thrown so many pawns
at you, such stones of words

and “sorry,” so tiny a pawn

I like this poem so much that I keep staring at it, reading it.  Reading it.  Staring at it.  Reading.

Okay - this makes emotional transference seem like an excellent form of communication!     Well said, Ratleader!!

Ed...Maybe it's because I don't know how to play chess, but I don't understand your comparison of pawn to poetry.  In fact...I looked it up.

"one of the chessmen of least value having the power to move only forward ordinarily one square at a time, to capture only diagonally forward, and to be promoted to any piece except a king upon reaching the eighth rank"

Anyway, I'm left thinking that your stones may have more weight than you think.

and “sorry,” so tiny a pawn

But it can be that one move that makes all the difference. *S*

Superb analogy... brilliant write!!

Yes -- sometimes just one word is enough....if it's meant and if it's received, at the time it should be. Pawns make queens on the chessboard, and once in a great while, in the world.

I love playing chess and playing with words! You brought two of my passions together in one write.

Queen me!
