I choose    this solitude
a safe feeling haven
it is my refuge
where I bask in the warmth
of alone
an escape

from demons
of my own.

The past comes calling
haunting me;
sometimes teasing
and taunting me.

I should pick up the phone
and call you...

and you...

but I'm to damn comfortable
here, in my room
where doors remain    closed
to keep the world
from getting in;

into this place
where I feel safe

here in the solitude..

my sanctuary.

No one can tell you how to get there
it's a road you take all by yourself,
look inside and find the part
that's leading you;
that's the beat of the heart.
(Warren Bros.)

Oh, I do so know what that feels like. There are times when I just want to shut out the world and retreat to my cozy haven ~ my bedroom! Peace, solitude, and tranquility can be ever so healing! The secret is to not stay in that safe place for too long! lol

You have been through so much, I can understand your feelings! ~ and you expressed them superbly! You are a marvellous poet, Dear Donna!

Loveya!

HA!

you just described my life, gosh Donna I could have written those words myself, I think them all the time, live them even.

I always tell myself I am saner by myself anyhow.  (It's true btw)  *grin*

God, do I ever know this.

Hey pretty lady, nice poem, but you should get out and shake those blues away.  Kick up your heels and use that sanctuary as a brief rest stop!  Dang I wish I could do that myself, but Math homework awaits.

Boy have I missed this place!

I've been there, to that place you penned, and you describe it quite well.
Enjoyed ....

sometimes we just need our own little place where we know we are safe because we have always been there in childhood in teens and in adulthood the room still remains the place where comfortable is always found

Your title called to me.
Passing over a pillow, and the popcorn!
Well done Donna.

When the comfortable
turns uneasy...

you'll know to
either call...

or walk on.

I, too, retreat into the sanctuary of my solitude, when needed.
But, the inner demons have a way of reaching us, anywhere.

Makes me want to go back to bed and stay cozy. Everyone needs some time for comfort. I cant seem to write anything with short lines for some reason.

Donna

"but I'm to damn comfortable
here, in my room
where doors remain closed
to keep the world
from getting in;

into this place
where I feel safe

here in the solitude.."

But you are never really alone, you are with a self, your own...and that is the beauty of solitude...imho

Keats, realized it also...in a poem of the same title...( I was wrong, on checking back here I said the poem was of the same title (Keats poem) it is in reality titles "Solitude" sorry.

"When to thy haunts two kindred spirits flee." (I think he meant the body and spirit)

You are not alone, as writing poems like this will always gain you audience...

not much else can be taken from us
