Drew a line
the other day
it wasn't straight
maybe the weather
crooked pencil
wrinkled page
the lead wept
more turf to smear

Drew a line
on today's sunrise
it went to the horizon
vision stopped
perspective pointed
golden rays
the lead cried for turf
more paper to mark

Drew a line
tomorrows line to rest
graveyard shift
bodies dropped
plumb straight
darkened depths
the lead sobbed
for cover stole the light
earth buried man
his chartered courses
on crooked creases.
